Also, one of them cooked fish.

I also did BLW with my daughter so never really tried babyfood. I was concerned though that people might conclude that Padma is feeding baby food to her 2 month old, which she obviously isn't. I wish they had made it clear that she was trying it "for the future" or something....

Oh well. I'm really perplexed with Angelo, I can't get him at all. Maybe his dazzling, orange tan is doing something strange to my brain... That Culinary Institute of America woman really messed up the pasta timing, and she seemed to be in a permanent bad mood. I hope her students go easy on her when she returns..!

haven't read responses- this is my running commentary as i watch!

why is padma talking about feeding solids to a 2 month old?

no mention of fenugreek increasing milk supply?

It's too bad Timothy went home. I liked him. He had a nice low-key, no drama way about him. He departed with class.
My DH said it's too bad no one gives the finger to the judges as they're leaving. I told him that would get edited out.

I found the crab challenge hard to watch. Would it have been too much to kill the crabs first before putting them in the oven?
I forgot who it was (Stephen or Ed), but one of them put the live crabs on a cookie sheet, sprinkled seasoning while they were desperately crawling around trying to get off..and then stuck them in a hot oven.

See, I'm a MD girl... so I was salivating the whole crab competition. All I wanted was to eat some steamed crabs with Old Bay seasoning........... YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I'm sad Timothy went home, too, but when all he was doing was roasted veggies out of a mouselline (?SP), then I kinda guessed it was going to be him. I can make better looking roasted veggies at home. :-)

Yep, I agree.
He really should have made something else. When you only cook roasted veggies on TC, you have to make sure they're perfect. They need to be the best roasted veggies ever. Like the time Carla from two seasons ago did the buttered peas. It was really done to perfection. I think the French chefs judging the Elimination Challenge were salivating over the simple yet delicious dish.

Was Angelo's serious about his "I've had crabs" comment?! It was very funny and most unexpected.

Remember when there was a skirmish over the beets/turnips and someone said there were no other veggies? then kevin's cauliflower fell on the ground and he magically pulled broccoli out of the back of the car?
i was suprised to see Tim go. I thought sherry chicken girl's time was up for sure..

I totally agree- I'm glad I'm not the only one! It was horrible seeing them chopped apart while still alive, and put into the oven. I'm from MD, too, and it doesn't make it any better. I'm surprised they didn't mention, even in passing, sustainability issues with the crabs, and the chesapeake bay. But glad that they balanced it with doing a humane farm food challenge!

YES!! I noticed that! I thought there were no more veggies, and he produced a broccoli and you could see other stuff in there!

Wow, thank you!!!!!!! I have been looking for this forever! Netflix doesn't have the beginning seasons and I only started watching around season 4 (?one with Stephanie). I am really enjoying watching season 1 every night!

I did NOT like the way they did the elimination (and win) tonight - even if it would have turned out exactly the same I didn't think it was fair...

I agree- I kept thinking there would be a 3rd person in the top and bottom, who was "judges choice". It didn't seem fair that their personal feelings toward the chefs could come into play, even if subconciously. I also thought they should have figured out a way to make it a blind taste test, where they didn't know which chef made which dish. Although that would have been hard since they are seeing what each other is making in the kitchen. I don't think it was Tamesha's time to go!

a third person - judges choice would have been a good idea...

I thought about the blind taste but that would have not been what the judges were trying to do - which was "see what they would do" (judge as a game or judge based on actual skills)

and I forgot to say, I didn't enjoy it as much this time because the food looked gross. first the quickfire with duck balls, crocodile, emu eggs, etc, then the cold meal looked attractive, but raw/barely cooked meat and seafood is just not my thing and that was what most of the dishes were. I didn't think Tamesha deserved to go yet, but the description of the scallop sounded so gross- like a big tongue put on your tongue!
