oh GOD! FLIES

So, its summer. and we eat whole food. which means we have a plauge of flies that we are currently battling,i have some funnel/bait traps set up, but they arent doing much, and we use a zappy fly swatter. but when they cant find food in the kitchen... they search for it elsewhere.

Ive got FLIES in my diaper pail. We use a garbage can with a swing lid as a diaper pail, we rinse poos with a sprayer, (catch most of them actually) so its mostly pee diapers. I wash twice a week (wednesday and sunday) but still. Flies in the diaper pail eventually means MAGGOTS in the diapers and i just cant handle that.

help!

I couldn't handle that either. Maybe you need to wash more often???

Get a pail with a tight fitting lid and wash more often - even if it's just to run them through a rinse cycle. They're not usually interested in the pee dipes, it's the smell of the poo they're after.

I had to get really uptight about taking out the compost, keeping all food scraps off the counters and out of the sink, putting several ACV traps out (one in the kitchen, one in the nursery, one next to the fruit bowl), and rinsing dipes when the pail was full (it's not enough of a load to wash, but they could sit wet for another day). It took about a week of me being diligent to get rid of them, and they've cropped back up a time or two when I slip up, but I know what to do now and don't let it get as bad.
