My original goal in researching cloth diapers was to have all one kind, to simplify, to say "Please get me a diaper" and no one would have a problem figuring out what kind.
Then I tried everything--and had a lot of fun doing it.
But, I've figured out that there is no one kind that will fit all of my needs in every situation. I HAVE, however, narrowed it down to 2 or 3.
I like prefolds BEST, mostly because I like knowing that my baby is pooping in something that cost $1.75 and will come clean in any washing routine. Also because I like the flexibility to pin, Snappi, or trifold. If I had a problem with pinning, or if my husband refused to use them, I would have gone with MEOS instead. But really, there is no reason for us to sink the money into fitteds when we both like prefolds.
I DO think there is reason to sink money into a mini-stash of Velcro-closing pockets or AIO's, the reason being that we do leave the baby with other people sometimes and I am too hard-headed to use disposables but too shy to give cloth diapering lessons.
Finally, I've made a special exception for my mother and bought a mini-stash of Velcro-closing fitteds just for her, because she changes a lot of diapers and she can't deal with prefolds or snapping fitteds and she doesn't like pockets or AIO's.
So, when I sell off the odds and ends, I will have 3 different kinds. That is the way to avoid either having to force myself to use a diaper I don't prefer just so that I can have a uniform stash, or making other people jump through hoops when I should be grateful that they're helping me with my kids.
I kind of think it's funny because at the end of the day I really do love MEOS, but I don't have ANY. Oh well.

in the pretty colors they've come out with since DD1 was a baby. Actually, DD1 went through a phase where she'd take off snap diapers too and so we had to keep her in covers and onesies all the time, but fortunately that phase didn't last too long.
