Another gift thread, what should I get DD (6)

It's DDs 6th birthday in a few weeks and I have no idea what to get her. Usually I've picked up a couple of small things by now (we're quite happy with used items for gifts here) but this year I haven't spotted anything that seems right.

She is not that into toys which rules out a lot of things. She does like crafts but we have lots of supplies and I hate paying lots for kits which have so far turned out to be quite frustrating for both of us.

Suggestions for books or games would be good.

Hmm maybe I can find something for her room, again suggestions would be good

I hate the pressure to buy lots of stuff but I would it wouldn't feel like a birthday without something to unwrap.

What about some sort of canopy for her bed. I know IKEA makes a couple.

Another thought is something to be used outdoors. Bocci ball set, scooter, slip and slide, water toys, croquet set, etc.

audio books, theatre tickets, clothes, easel (you probably have), something foodie (ice cream maker, popcorn maker), box set of books (narnia or little house). not sure about board games I'm afraid.

Dd got a cookie kit for her birthday - cookie mix and cutters and the edible food paint that we used to paint the cookies. It was a huge hit, and didn't add much to the clutter that we have. And major portions are reusable.

It was something like this, only with animals (and a different brand).

My is turning 7 in a few weeks and I am getting her a boombox for her room. She currently has my DH's old one up in her room but the CD player went west a few weeks ago and she really misses being able to play books on CD and her cd's.

I like the bed canopy idea, I bet she would love it.

She already has a CD player, she loves her music. She doesn't listen to audio books much, though now I think about it maybe she has just outgrown the ones we have. I think I will be browsing around Amazon. She used to listen to them every night.

I haven't read the little house books but I think I was much older before reading the Narnia books. I imagine I still have them somewhere so we'll give them a try.

The baking set idea is a good one but I made both kids aprons and wrapped them with a couple of pots of sprinkles for Christmas. It was a big hit and on my list of gifts when the kids get invited to parties.

For her room how about an alarm clock (even if she doesn't need to get up early my kids liked having them-got for $6 at Target), an inexpensive Lava lamp, or a "Rainbow in My Room" or a "Moon in my Room". Not sure who makes thoses last two but my kids have always wanted them. A beanbag or fun chair would be good too.

Another idea is binoculars and a nature book.

Walkie Talkies? A gerbil pair? A rock tumbler?

Just brainstorming!

Rollerskates? a tent or sleeping bag? slip and slide?

I was just coming back to this thread to suggest rollerskates, but it looks like the pp beat me to it, lol!

Also, since you can sew, what about making a twirly skirt or a dress using fabric(s) you know she'll love.

Since she likes crafts, one thing my crafty dd loves is a sticker making machine. They don't take up a lot of space and it's not a kit, just a machine that you can put a small drawing or pretty scrap of paper into and it will roll out on the other end as a sticker.
