Belly Button Hernia and Pregnancy. . .

I believe I have a belly button hernia. I am pregnant with my third and believe I got it during an uncomfortable birthing postition with my 2nd. It comes and goes, sometimes bothering me most of the time it doesn't. However now that I'm pregnant with my third I'm worried about the pushing part of labor and this hernia. Does anyone have experience with this? I'm worried that with the strain of pushing this hernia could like rupture or cause immense tissue damage. Is this even a possibility with somehting so seemingly minor? Anyone have advice? I'm going to go to the Dr. and hear what they have to say, I am planning a hb but perhaps that's not the best idea? Or maybe it is??

Any advice is much appreciated! TIA

I had one. It wasn't spotted until a few days before birth, it wasn't mentioned again after that and I had a vaginal birth (in hospital) without it being an issue. I'd speak to your dr to put your mind at rest but it wouldn't usually be an issue unless it's causing pain or can't be pushed back in. Apparently they're usually congenital and are pretty common. You can have it repaired surgically after the birth, if necessary.

I had a doula client with one that was discovered around 20 weeks. She was told that other than being painful during the pregnancy off and on, like you mentioned, it really wouldn't have any effect on her birthing options. Enjoy your homebirth!
