TF granola?

My parents are listening to what I am explaining and are willing to make some changes... not eggs for breakfast, but at least something. My dad still wants his granola for breakfast, which is pretty much oats and sugar the way my mom makes it. Is there any way to make a more TF granola?

I take oats, give it a light coating of coconut oil in a bowl, add in yogurt - just enough to make it pasty - and soak for 18 to 24 hours.

Then I spread it on a baking sheet, and put it in the oven on my lowest possible setting - 170 degrees and start drying it out. It can take a good portion of the day, and I give it a stir & break up pieces every 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours.

When it has cooled, you can "flavor" it any way you'd like. I add in coconut sprinkles (coconut that's been baked in maple syrup) and some times fresh fruit or dried fruit, and eat it with yogurt, although I'm sure it'd be good in milk, too. It keeps for a long time in a container in my pantry, although I usually eat it all up before it has ever gone bad.

If your parents *really* have to have the sugar coating, you could try to mix in some honey/rapadura......or brown sugar when you are baking it to give it more sweetness, but I'd maybe encourage them to add it in their bowls.

do like laura loo, coat it in fat and then yogurt, soak overnight, then coat that in a liquid sugar like maple syrup, brown rice syrup, or honey, then dehydrate.

Sounds delicious, but my dad doesn't like yogurt (sigh). Does it have much of a yogurt taste when you're done with it, or is there something else they could soak it in that isn't yogurt?

soaked granola it tastes nothing like yogurt - the yogurt simply provides an acidic medium.

I presume buttermilk or kefir would work the same; and I guess if you had a dairy allergy lemon or vinegar would work too. I'd experiment and see what you/they like

we're loving the grain-free granola from the girlgoneprimal blog. but, I don't know if that is too outlandish for your parents. My son (a die-hard oatmeal eater) has started requesting "oatmeal like you guys have" (no oats involved though).
