Lyme Disease in 3 yo

My 3.5 year old tested positive for Lyme Disease, which I suspect he has been suffering with for almost a year. They put him on amoxicillan (sp) for 21 days. I started a probiotic that was recommended at my local health food store also she gave me a homeopathic Lyme disease tincture that says to use in conjunction with the abx. I'm just wondering if there is anything else I should be doing? I'm so worried about his gut. How do I know if he's responding to any and all of the stuff I'm giving him?

I found the tick on him last year around August I guess. They told me to wait the 6 weeks which I did and there was nothing. Then about 3 months later he had a small rash which I thought was very much a bulls eye, but I took him in for that and they said it wasn't. Now at that point I was certain he had lyme without any other symptoms (except he was kind of a whiney monster but he had just turned 3 and honestly I thought it was normal). So I waited a few days and called the doctor and asked to have the bloodwork done. They tried to tell me he didn't need it but eventually said that sure, I could do it. But I didn't. I have a million reasons for not doing it, but looking back none of them are good ones. Anyway, down the line he began to complain that his hips hurt occasionally. Mostly when he had to go to the bathroom. He never wanted to ride a bike (also possibly normal) he was always lagging behind on walks, complaining about cold or hot or the sun is too bright. But about 3 weeks ago he fell and hurt his leg. After 2 days I brought him to the Dr. to make sure it wasn't broken, he was constantly complaining about it. They said it wasn't and I took him home. A week after that he spikes a fever out of nowhere and that was it for me. I called and had the bloodwork done the next day.

Looking at his symptoms they are so spaced out if I hadn't found the tick myself I wouldn't have thought lyme.

I hate to say this but if you can afford it you should get him a consult with a qualified professional homeopath. Lyme is very serious and is not something that can be treated by over the counter homeopathic remedies no matter what the sales people say.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help...

This. Homeopathy doesn't allow for a standardized approach. That is it's strength. There is no "over the counter" remedy that is going to do anything but palliate which is not what you are looking for at this point. It can be at times-but his symptoms, from what you described don't need palliation.

Can you consult with someone? Is that an option for you?

where in CT are you? I can give you the name of one that works quite a bit with lyme and specializes in pediatrics. She's in central CT.

When I was in CT (left in 2004), the Health Departments would test any tick you brought in, at least in southeastern CT. Just in case you ever find another one. Hope your ds feels better soon.

I know an osteo in CT who deals with pediatric lyme as well (my DS for example). So he can prescribe abx and do the natural healing as well. I'll have to say I thought the stuff I read said that Amoxicillan wasn't really that helpful for lyme.

you might want to google "LLMD" and your area. its stands for lyme literate md, and that might be what you need in addition to a great ND. sorry youa re dealing with this.
