My son wants to look at candy

Is this weird? If my son sees a piece of candy (suckers are all we have in the house), he will absolutely insist on my letting him hold onto it so he can "look at it".
Sometimes he will hang onto the candy for hours, having a big fit if I try to put it up.
Most of the time, 99% of the time, he will resist the urge to open it.

What do you think? I'm confused!

(he is 3yo btw)

Next, it will be porn.

I think he shows amazing power. I can barely wait to unwrap it. I just want to eat it. (I ♥ Tootsie Pops)

BTW, my mom claims that at age three, I carried a peice of bread around all the time. I wouldn't eat it, just carry it until it got dry, then I'd want another one.

That is so funny. I'm not sure if I'd prefer the bread to the candy or not. The bread woudn't start a fight w his 16 month old sis, but I'm sure it would make more of a mess!

I don't think it's weird. DS's best friend (3.5) has been doing this sort of thing for a while. With him it's cookies, he has slept entire nights with a cookie in his hand. Not a bite out of it! I think it's cute.

My middle boy does this with his treat from grocery shopping some weeks. He holds onto it all day until his older brother gets home so he can share it with him.

My kids 5 and 7 want to have candy in their rooms to have and take out to look at. They rarely get to have candy. My daughter has her Easter basket with half the candy still in it at the foot of her bed. It wasnt much to begin with.

Most of it I threw out over time and a few pieces they ate. They know we dont eat much candy, but like to have it.
They do the same with Hallween candy.

Someone gave them lifesavers and m&ms a few years ago and they thought they were toys. It was so funny. They were fascinated by the pretty colors and shapes of candy and it never occured to them that they could eat it until they started to see other kids when we were out.

Ds has a lot of food allergies so cant have many foods. He always wants to hold them, smell them, look at them... He knows he cant eat it, but he wants to check it out!
Most of the time I cant let him b/c he isnt supposed to have contact.

Mine usually won't save a treat to share it, but they'll insist that I buy one for the others too (so I keep it CHEAP lol) they will share if they're all there.

I heard about a study a few years ago that indicated this sort of self control at such a young age is an indicator of a very successful future! DD went through a stage when she was about 4 or 5 where she would squirrel away all the candy treats she got from parents, grandparents, teachers for a couple of weeks and then eat them all at once. Personally I though it was a brilliant idea.

My youngest did this at around 3ish. He would find a candy, know that we usually don't eat candy in the morning and hang onto it until mid afternoon. Oftentimes he completely forgot about it.

Now my DD, she is all about immediate gratification with candy. Although they have a huge bag of candy from Easter in their room and rarely ask for any.
