does staph do this?

For DS's 15 mos WBV (we do them to keep our place in the practice though don't vax) I pointed out some spots he had on his leg - maybe just one spot at the time, can't recall. Ped didn't seem concerned but said keep an eye on it and when I mentioned that DH had had similar looking spots (pustule, maybe?) I got the impression that if it become a bigger issue we could have it lanced(?) for staph.

Well, DH has had a few more spots come and go, and I've also had a couple. One I thought was a pimple and I tried to pop it on my leg, didn't heal up the way a pimple would have. A second is on my stomach and I've just left it. It's still a bit red around it and slightly tender but appears to be healing.

Anyway, does staph come and go? I'm pretty ignorant about this - I always cited MRSA (and other infections diseases common in hospitals) as one of the many reasons we'd chosen homebirths, but in all honestly I'm pretty clueless about it. And now I wonder if we have it?!

It can. I had a roommate in college who had recurrent boils, one at a time over various parts of her body. It took multiple doctors visits and a year or two before someone finally figured out she had community acquired MRSA from the university gym.

It could also be a different skin bacterium. My dog has been having recurrent abscesses on her foot for several years. We finally got a culture and its E Coli in there. I thought for sure we'd find staph.

It might be a good idea to get it cultured the next time one of you gets a bump, and mention that everyone in the family has been having symptoms.

I just did a quick search because I knew i had heard of natural treatments for MRSA. Tea tree oil, honey, tumeric and garlic all have the capability to heal it. Do some searching online to find the treatment you like and treat the areas, it can't hurt and if it is staph, it will surely heal it.

I just saw some mention of colloidal silver in the treatment on curezone... but I am not real sure about the nano silver nowadays, so I did not include that but you can look it up too....

Thanks, that's very interesting to hear about. So did your roommate have a systemic CA MRSA infection? Interesting about your dog. Yeah, I'm guessing the next time one of us starts getting a bump we'll try to get it cultured. Seems like SUCH a pain since we're not exhibiting other symptoms just to go to the doctor to get it cultured. And I hope it's on me rather than my son - lancing it sounds sort of painful. But I guess I'd rather know with what we're dealing in case it's something that could become a bigger problem. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Thanks, karika, will have to open the links later but I appreciate it. I'm definitely interested in a non-abx treatment! The thing is, I'm not sure what we're dealing with. I mean, if I treat the next bump with honey, for example, and it goes away faster than it had, or even at the same rate as our untreated ones, what would that mean? I'm having the sinking feeling it's going to be a doc visit... I've never used colloidal silver (have been tempted to find and try it, though) but have never heard about "the nano silver," so will have to research that just to find out what it is. Thanks again for replying!
