Hi Everyone,
I have often visited this forum for info but have not posted before. I am just feeling really down tonight and frankly need some hugs and encouragement!
My daughter is 5.5 months old and still breastfeeding with heavy supplementation at the breast and bottles. She had a very slight tongue tie that took 2 months to be diagnosed. I have been pumping since she was tiny, taking every supplement known to God and been on Domperidone for months. Nothing really seems to help. I had a night tonight where she refused to breastfeed. She took the bottle ok, which hurt, but I know that sometimes she is just funky and will likely be better tomorrow. I do fear losing her to the bottle, as I am at work full-time and do not get to breastfeed as much as I like. I pump at work, but still the supply is so low as always. I use the Lact-Aid at breast supplementer, which I have found to be the best of all I have tried. I would give anything for an answer or a magical pill. We got off to a rough start and I have not been able to catch up. My three sisters have had HUGE milk supplies. I do not have any indications of IGT or anything like that. My thyroid is borderline low and we are treating that now, but they don't want me to hold out too much hope that that will turn things around.
I have seen a million different (and excellent specialists). I tried one acupuncturist with no luck and plan to try another just in case as I know it won't hurt.... even though the evidence that it helps is not great.
Anyone have any sucess stories this late in the game to share or just some encouragement and prayers? This has been so heart breaking. I have tried so hard and even just tried to chill out and not try so hard and still nothing! Any suggestions, advice, anything would be so greatly appreciated.
My primary doc has prescribed the Dom for me. I am currently on 120 mg/day. Anyone had any luck going up to 160? I see that is Jack Newman's highest recommended dosage. I have had no side effects whatsoever.
I know I have a beautiful and healthy daughter but the sweet little thing has always tried so hard to breastfeed since birth. I wish I could make more milk for her. When I am semi-full (which is as good as it gets), she is so happy.
Thanks in advance. Fiona's Mama
