My little guy (11 mo) has been experiencing something that might be silent reflux for a while now -- off and on for several months, and a lot the past couple of weeks. I've talked with doctors about it, but they don't seem to think anything I describe is different than normal baby stuff. It seems like a lot of symptoms that are listed for pain and discomfort could be considered "normal" -- things like increased fussiness, not wanting to lie down, etc. I don't know if I'm just not very good at describing things, or I don't have the right "key words" doctors listen for, or what. I'm new at this, so please tell me -- what should I be looking for?
Here's what he does, the best I can describe --
Throughout the day, but worse at night, I hear this sound that sounds like he's going to spit up but he doesn't. When it's bedtime, especially, and I try to bounce and sing him to sleep (trust me, nothing else will work right now) he starts crying (prob normal), and then he arches his back and tenses his stomach (could be just upset?) and he'll throw his head back and make this gurgling sound (???). The last few weeks he's been waking up avg five or six times at night, mostly between 10 and 3 am. Last night I think he woke up about every hour. Most of the daytime, he may get fussy at nap times (normal), often doesn't want to play by himself at all (maybe normalish?) but otherwise doesn't seem to be in significant pain/discomfort. But he almost always wakes up from his nap after about 20 min, and when I pick him up I hear that wet/gurgling sound. Sometimes I can get him back to sleep for another hour or so after that.
Does any of this sound like pain to you, or is it just random baby variation? Of course there's always the teething etc but that is not all the time, I can usually tell when he's bothered by teething.
Thanks!
