I posted over in TF last night and they advised that I post here. I just typed up a long post and my comp ate it. Easier to copy/paste.

Hey I am Sarah and don't usually post around here *waves*
I hope y'all can help me out with a paleo toddler. We started eating cave-like after eating TF for at least all of baby girls life. We were thinking a GF/CF diet as there are some autism spectrum issues here (thats another post)and ended up stumbling into a paleo diet.We aren 't super strict with it and sometimes the girls get nut butter sammiches on Vanns GF waffles.Baby girl is 20mo and 31lbs. she sports a 2/3t clothes so not lacking any nutrients and is generally healthy these days.
Problem is she poops. Alot. Like 6x per day. Her lil bum is super sore. Silly me I took her to the peds office. They blamed it on her still nursing Her legs, bumm and cheeks are all red and raw looking. Her 3yo sister is still nursing and has no bowel problems of this sort and eats the same foods.
Do lil cave tots poop this much or should I be concerned? See an allergist? GI doc? Put her on regular SAD childrens diet?BE careful of my own dairy slips as i believe dairy is an issue.... LOl dare I ask should I ween? TIA

Definitely do not wean!

Well, her bum being red could be from the frequent poop, which could indicate something isn't agreeing with her. But the red legs and cheeks definitely sounds like eczema. She could be reacting to something in her diet or something in yours. If you suspect dairy I would eliminate it in all forms (even the tiniest amt) and see if things improve. It takes a while for dairy to clear the system because it needs to first clear yours and then hers. You are looking at probably around a month to get her completely dairy free. Also, keep a food journal for both of you that includes when and approximately how much was eaten. Also, note anything else, sleep pattern, skin issues, behavioral issues, GI stuff, etc.

Good luck!

Sounds like she's reacting to something you or she is eating. If you are already off gluten & dairy, next candidates would be soy and corn, but eating paleo, you're likely not on those either?

It's my opinion paleo (or any other diet) isn't right for everyone. I have one child that would do great on it, and another (and me) that much prefer grains and veggies. That's how we feel best. So you might experiment with shifting her nutritional balance some, and see if it helps. There are lots of good healthy ways to eat that aren't SAD, but aren't paleo either .

Lol I really had no intentions of weaning e
as far as her diet goes she/we seem to be somehting in between paleo and GF/CF. She has a speech delay and will be tested for ASD next month. Before we started the diet she had 5 sounds/approximations to label immediate family members. It's been since April and she has 15 total sounds/approximations. She also recently started to immitate facial expressions and simple games.
I definately want to continue her on this sort of diet as I see it is having an effect. Silly me I forgot that the gluten and milk will go through the breastmilk. I do still drink milk sometimes and even a little ice cream once a week. I guess I need to be careful now.It totally makes sense.

Speech delay, consider GABA supplements (and go read the gaba/glutamate thread!). GABA helps your brain put the spaces between words, otherwise they all run together. Has made a noticeable impact on my little guy's speech and understanding (still delayed, but at least making some progress).

Wow mamafish--fascinating link on gaba and speech delay! Any info on articulation issues irt nutrients/pathways/etc? (If it has do do w/ sulfation I'll faint...) Just wondering!

Glad you're over here Sarah! Good luck!

What kind of articulation issues? Some can be related to gaba (some articulation problems are basically from running the words all together, because that's how you hear them with low gaba).

It can also be a remyelination issue. Stress/oxidation/food reactions/metals strip neurons of their myelin. Yasko folks report articulation issues & stammering as things they see when metals are being mobilized, for examples. Yasko recommends 4 supps to help with that (all available on her site, not expensive, be careful with spirulina, it can moblize metals, the others as far as I know are only supportive): spingholin, oraplacenta, ashwaghanda, spirulina.

One possible link to sulfation - if you can't sulfate, you'd be increasing sulfites and other things in your system that would oxidize -> demyelinate. There, see, it's all connected .

Any chance you could give a primer for a noob? I am lost in the GABA thread and google has me lost even more. TIA

I'm not sure where to begin, Sarah ... Do you have some specific questions? That might be easier than trying to organize my brain into a coherent dump .

Honestly I don't know where to begin. I would really like it if I could find a way for my gilrs to be able to eat "normal" kid stuff again. We are foodies anyway so normal to us is crunchy granola health food.

For now lets stick with the diet we are on and just add some suppliments ow about I start with some enzymes and probiotic? Any suggestions for 4 of us aged 20mo to 5yo and then myself? TIA

I think with eczema, the first steps would be finding the offending foods and getting them out of her and your diets. It sounds like you haven't been completely dairy free, and that could be the issue right there, so I'd try that first. Also, check any supps you are taking, they can be hidden sources of dairy.

Next I'd take out any soy and corn, since those are the next two top intolerances.

Once you get out the foods that are creating the immediate issue, then enzymes & probiotics are a great idea to help with gut healing . And it will be easier to recommend which ones once we know what foods your DD is reacting to.
