My DD just fractured her ankle this week and will have a hard cast put on. We will be traveling soon. Any carrier suggestions? She weighs about 27lbs.
Thanks,
Alison

How high up is the cast? Can she straddle you with her knees bent? If yes then maybe a soft structure carrier like an Ergo if you are not use to wrapping. If you want to take the time to learn to wrap then I would suggest a German woven wrap. I can still back wrap my 35 pound 2.5 year old in my Storch wrap. I like to use the Secure High Back Wrap.

Oh and I am sorry that your DD got hurt

For my DS (3 years old, 31 pounds and 37 inches) I really love my Olives and Applesauce 18 inch carrier, I have heard amazing things about Kinderpack toddler carriers as well, but I haven't gotten one yet, since they are a bit harder to find.

I can carry my 3 yo comfortably in an Ergo - I'd try that.

We have a pikkolo and it goes up to 40lbs. I wear DD who is probably about 30lbs now on my back often still. I wouldn´t wear her on my front anymore, though. It also has a hip support to spread out the weight.

Really? I'm so jealous. DD is nearly 30 lbs now and the Ergo has been bothering my shoulders a lot

I also carry my 3 1/2 yo fairly often in my Ergo, usually on multi-mile hikes. It has always worked well. Plus, as a bonus, their customer service is excellent. I loved my wrap when my girl's were younger, but never did experiment with a material that could distribute the weight as well as the Ergo.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions! I am happy to report that the orthopedic surgeon said that she doesn't need ahard cast, just a wrap. She will still need to be off her feet for a while but this is fantsatic news!

We have the Boba and love it. It's very similar to the Ergo, but it has stirrups for extra support for older children. With a broken ankle, I don't know if that would be more comfortable because it's supported or just make it worse. They recommend using it with hard soled shoes. You can also use it without the foot straps. I like them because they're made in the USA (Boulder, Colorado - Boba stands for Boulder Baby), organic, and competitively priced with the Ergo, cheaper than Ergo's organic line. I'm glad to hear it's not as bad as you thought, and I hope she heals up quickly.

I carry my toddler in a Beco & find it much more comfortable than the Ergo (which I had when my oldest was little)...and I walk everywhere...

Same here--the Beco is taller and not made in China.
