I've just bought some maca tablets, but Ive read they can contain mercury or lead if they aren't organic....does that really matter? anyone bothered by it? Should I just get any I find or be careful?

I don't know what maca is but high levels of mercury can cause foetal abnormalities this is why when pregnant you told to have no more than 2 servings of tuna a week.

Anyone? which maca do you take?

Planetary Formulas is awesome, but you can get it online for cheap if you search. I also like Enzymatic Therapy's Maca Tru. Those both contain the extract and the Maca Tru comes in 1g per pill, which makes it easier to get the right dosage (2g per day for me)

I would also get organic when possible.

Oh, and yes, if that is true (I have never heard that before), I would be very worried about it. In addition to birth defects, there has been some evidence to suggest that mercury and other heavy metals accumulating in the brain can lead to Alzheimer's.

I can't find any organic maca tablets! I might just go with non-organic for now....
