I'm worried about a regular shampooing because then it will be warm and wet. Any ideas?

Mildew smell in carpet: What is the best way to treat?

I've been a little obsessed with this topic lately.
And from what I'm reading
, mold in the carpet usually requires professional cleaners. However, if they're going to pull out the big-gun chemicals, it may be best just to replace it.
And DEFINITELY identify the source of the mold, or else it's doomed to happen to you again. (How high is the humidity in your house? What kind of insulation is between your floor and your basement or crawlspace? Was it a leak or flooding that can be stopped?)
Also, are you sure it's mold? Mold smells musty. Bacteria smells stinky, like a sweaty sock or a towel that's been wet for too long. Mold and bacteria both compete for the same food sources.
Personally, no matter which it is, I'd call some pro cleaners. Ask to make sure, but many carry special drying equipment for rapid drying.
Good luck!

we have nasty carpets, im not sure its mold, i think the people that lived here before us where potty training their son (he was around 4 when they moved out and they lived here 2 years) so i think he had many accidents because the room that was his smells the worst
anyway i put some vingegar and tea tree oil in a spray bottle and sprayed it around on the carpet and it seemed to have worked pretty well. it's been about a week and things definitely smell a bit better
