(This is a cross-post from another forum. I apologize for repeating myself...I'm looking for lots of suggestions.)
My DCP informed me today that some of my bags have leaked recently - she lost an entire 7.5 oz bag today! I'm having supply issues right now & this is not the kind of news I want to hear! (The leaking bags were Lansinoh brand. I LOVED Lansinoh bags before I discovered that some of them are leaking. I am currently using Medela bags that I was gifted before my DS was born & I hate them - they are too small & I have trouble filling them without spilling.)
We brainstormed about how to get around leaking bags so not another drop of my precious milk is wasted. Since I have a fairly decent sized freezer stash that is already frozen and bagged, we decided that she would just thaw those out (as needed) in Ziplock baggies so that whatever might leak will be safely captured. She's currently using frozen bags from about 1.5 months ago - she has around 300 oz to burn through before she catches up to today.
I want to come up with a different storage method. My ideal storage would be freezing in bottles - but as I have around 300 oz of overflow, that would be a HUGE number of bottles.
My DCP suggested freezing the milk in trays. She sent me this link: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=2721830. I'm just not keen on that idea. When my supply is normal, I freeze anywhere from 15-20 oz daily. How would I store the cubes after they are frozen & keep them organized by date? I'm assuming this would involve throwing a bunch of loose cubes into a Ziplock baggie. My milk always thaws a tiny bit on the way to my DCP - wouldn't the cubes just end up re-freezing together and turn into one solid mass?
The other idea was to just operate on fresh milk only - to never freeze and pump each day for the next. I'm not against this idea, it would save on TONS of bags. I just don't know how to transition to it without wasting my freezer stash.
Anyone have any input? What do YOU do?
