IKEA fibreboard crib base

I would like to buy an IKEA crib because it is affordable. The one I am looking at (Gulliver) is solid wood but the base, which the mattress sits on I think, is fibreboard. I'm assuming that contains some nasties like formaldehyde.

Do you think there is anything I can do to prevent offgasing, like covering it or painting it with a no-VOC paint? Would that seal it?

Or should I forget about it and look for something second hand which is all wood (or metal base).

We have their other crib and the base is wood slats. Is this an option?
