leaky diapers.. do plastic pants help?

I've tried them all but they all leak? She MUST be changed every 3 hours or else! I even have those 12 hour pampers and they just do NOT work! I am tired of changing her onsie 3 times a day because she's soaked. That doesn't seem normal but how would I know?

Do those plastic panties help at all? I hate to wake her to change her diaper several times a night. I'm sure her excessive lover of her jumperoo doesn't help the situation. Probably squooshes it wrong.

She's in the correct size (3). She's 14 months.

Have you tried the size up - just out of interest?
DS is only 8 weeks old - but he was born huge for his size (over 12lbs) and is in size 3 when he has a disposable on! lol Size 2 is technically okay for him but we tried those and poo goes everywhere.

We mostly use cloth (99.9% of the time) and do EC a good percent of that as well - so there are no poos going in nappies anymore and very few wees make it there as well. But I think - changing every 3 hours is pretty fair enough.

Those plastic panties are really uncomfortable (and horrible looking if you ask me! lol)...I really don't think you should have to use those 'these days' (with the way disposables are!). Have you tried a different brand? I find store brands are always better (and cheaper too!) ...I would go with a bigger or smaller size and see how you get on with that!

The soft nylon version of plastic pants is GREAT IME. Much softer, very waterproof, very leak preventing, very thin and light. We always used them over top of the "package" except when we used wool, which was my favorite

We're using cloth, and DD is 3 mo, so 3-hour changes sound heavenly right now! Are your dipes leaking because they're full, or they just don't fit well? If she's soaking a 12-hr dipe very quickly, I'd make sure there's no health reason, eg is she peeing too much? (mind you, i'm a 1st time mom, so that's just speculation, not based on experience)

Every 3 hours? I thought the rule of thumb was at least every 2 hours. (that's what most daycares I'm familiar with do). When we used disposables I checked every hour and changed as needed. At night when my baby went longer I put him in the next sized diaper and that seemed to work.

I do pretty much the same routine with cloth diapers. However, I have put a cloth diaper cover over a disposable diaper when traveling. Something about sitting for a wile encourages leaks.

These are inexpensive and work well. The 'Dappi' brand is available on many sites.

I think for daytime changing every 2 hours is more average/normal. Overnight you could try a size up, or they make dispoable liners you can add for absorbtion, I think BRU sells them. We have the Gerber PEVA (used to be vinyl) covers that are sold at Walmart, BRU, etc.. We use those over our cloth with absolutley no leaks.

we use disposables too. I change ds diaper when it's wet and don't watch the clock. if it is really full at night I'll change him.

are you making sure the ruffles around the legs are pulled out? if the gussets are not right the dipe will leak.

As a first time mom, I have no idea if she's peeing too much At 14 months she is not walking yet and so she does sit quite often. I think that's when we have the issues (which are daily). Like in the grocery cart she soaked through and often soaks through in her jumper. It doesn't always fill the diaper but lands in a certain area like the front. Right now I'm in a battle over her sleeping in the jumper. I will sneak her into her bed and hubby will sneak her back into the jumper. She had a booger choking problem in the past and he feels this way she wont choke, but she's past that now. She is always wet after a night's sleeping in it.

I have noticed a few times the ruffle in the cracks. She acts like a crocodile with a prey when changing her. She's incredibly strong and just rolls non stop and it's a huge struggle to get them on. I've tried putting them on backwards or her standing. I give her toys, blankies, things to look at but she just rolls and rolls and rolls. I've held her still and she'll contort her body so it's almost rolled anyway.

She's small for her age 20 pounds, though I should reweigh her. She really slowed down at 18 pounds and only gains about .5-1 pound a month. The pampers fit really well, walmart brand is very snug. Maybe it's time to try a size 4 now. 12m fits her still and 18m clothes fall off of her. She has a very tiny butt :P (6wpre)

I don't actually time her changes, I'm just guessing. At 14 months she should be sleeping a bit more but lately she's been waking up every 4 hours to eat.

I ordered the gerber peva pants size 9-12 and I'll get a bigger size diaper when I run out. I kind of like the idea of cloth diaper outside too. thanks for all the ideas

Like other posters, I typically change my son's diaper more often than every 3 hours during the day. We mainly use cloth, but we often put him (11 months old) in a disposable diaper at night, and these were sometimes leaking (getting saturated with urine). We found that using a woolie (wool diaper cover) over either cloth diapers OR even over a disposable basically solved the problem.

alligator with prey

ds does that too, he weighs 20lbs to and is very strong. diaper changes are a nightmare. I try to give him a toy that he only gets for changes, but it is still challenging. usually what I do is try to get the diaper ON him, even if it's not on right, then I'll wait for him to be distracted and fix the ruffles/gusset

Try Cloth Diapers

My wife and I switched to cloth diapers about 4 months ago, after Ellie kept having blowouts with the disposable. It was the best decision we could make. We have not had a blowout since. We do still get leakage, but only if we get lazy and wait a while to change her. At night, we just double up the cloth insert and she is good for 10 hours easy. Wakes up dry.

We also figured for the approximately $300 we have invested, we will save so much more overall. We have also been able to resell the diapers when Ellie outgrows them, offsetting the cost of buying newer, bigger ones. We have all but started to use the one-size diapers which can be adjusted and used up to 35 pounds.

We do have to do a lot of washing, but it is worth it. The worst thing is the smell of the diaper pale if left too long. Good Luck!!
