Carseat question, rf vs. ff?

I have a Britax RA. I have a 22month old, and I had him rear facing, but he is now too tall; the instructions say I need to turn it around, as his head is at the top of the seat. Well, I turned it yesterday, and don't see how it's safer for his head ff? I have the seat in a Volvo wagon, and the RA is taller than the seat back, so in an accident, his head will still flop against the top of the RA, kwim?

I can see how if the seat back of my car was higher than the RA, it would offer some support, but it isn't. My minivan seats are also shorter than the RA. So how is he safe FF?

So, do I need to buy a new seat, one that is taller? The only taller one that can still go RF, which is what I want, is the Marathon, and we don't have any money right now. Until we get money for that, what is the next safest alternative? Help!

We went through this a couple of weeks ago. Go to Britax website. We now have until the top of his ears are level w/the top of the seat

In the meantime, we're going to have a tether anchor installed by Saturn.

I'm thinking we'll get to 3 yrs w/the new limits

Okay, went to the site, it says that as long as it isn't an "older" model RA, it's fine to wait until the ears are at the top. What is an "older" model? I got mine in September of 2002........I'll email them

Thanks!

I just called them about this same thing. My seat was manufactured in July 2002, and bought in Feb 2003. They told me to look at the label on the seat on the upper left-hand side and follow what it says. Unfortunately, on my seat, it says rear facing to 30 inches only, which is a shame. Like you, I cannot see how my son is safer facing forward when his head is still below the top of the seat? :
