Official quiet time in bed never really worked out for us, but I do try to keep things pretty low-key while her brother naps. Sometimes we watch a movie together or sometimes she chooses to spend the time sitting at the table coloring.

My five year old usually sleeps 11.5 hours (from 10-9:30). It can vary between 10.5 and 12 hours though.

When she was younger she slept a lot less.

When I was pregnant with Angela, I needed a nap in the afternoon. Since I can't nap in bed (gives me a groggy headache), I laid down on the couch in the living room. Joy and Erica rested on blankets and pillows on the living room floor. They each had a book which they could exchange. I put Bach's Brandenburg Concertos on the stereo. Joy could get up when Erica fell asleep and play quietly in the room while I had my down time. She would usually color or play with play dough at the dining room table. If Erica didn't fall asleep, they both could get up when the music was done (about 90 minutes).

From what I've read, watching TV really isn't restful for children. While their bodies aren't moving, their brain isn't. The brain needs to rest as well as the body.

My 5 yo goes to bed around 7/7:30 pm on school nights. He has to be up by 6 or 7 am depending on the day. I feel that he gets plenty of sleep. He does not take naps and hasn't since he was about 2 yo.

My 5yo sleeps 11 hrs (usually 9:30pm-8:30 or 9am) and has for a long time. He stopped napping just before 3yo.

10 hrs (9pm to 7 am)

my 5 y/o sleeps 10 hours at night. No naps.
I think it's normal, he doesn't seem tired during the day and wakes up by himself in the morning most of the time.

11-12 hours. She usually sleeps from 9 pm to 8 am, give or take 30 minutes in that range.

Mine is in bed for 12 hours 7:30 pm til 7:30 am but I am sure she only gets about 10 hours a night. She usually listens to music or audio books before falling asleep.

My four year old is a good sleeper. She'll go to sleep about 8:30 most nights and wake up at 8:00 or so. She hasn't napped in a long time.
