Diaper price musing

Yesterday my mom was saying--not complaining, just saying--that cloth diapers are way, way, way more expensive now than they were when I was a baby.

I thought about this for a long time and then said, "You can get a dozen flat diapers for $12.50."

My mom was impressed. "Really? That's comparable to what they cost back in my day. Do they work?"

I said, "Yes, they work, but I don't prefer them."

My mother then admitted that she prefers prefolds and fitteds, too, so it's probably worth the extra money.

It makes me feel spoiled, though, to think of it that way. We have so much more expensive stuff in our houses than we did 30 or 40 years ago, and we wonder why we don't have any money....

Prefolds, especially seconds and discount ones, aren't that much more expensive per dozen ($12-25). But, I hear you. Figuring out where we can do with less is a constant struggle for me and most of the people I know.

They're more expensive than diapers were back then, but they're way nicer, and they are still a fraction of the cost of sposies.

I know EXACTLY how you feel! When i first decided to cd my ds my mama was so proud and excited. I thought, "wow, I can just get some prefolds and a few covers and I'll be set for the whole diapering phase!"....but...then i saw how cute all the fitteds and how convenient the aio's were and how easy it could be to embellish my prefolds...etc. etc. etc. LOL!!!

My mamma was like, "you can't see them anyway!", and yeah, she's right (like mothers usually are BUT i can't help it! I'm sucked into the cding addiction And, my mama is still proud, but just hasn't caught the fever I guess! She does think the convienence of snappis and wrap covers and the innovativeness of wool and fleece is 'neat'. hahahaha!

seriously though, i love my a/c, electricity, microwave, cable tv, and modern conveniences that i didn't have growing up.
