We knew the EDD was off on our first, we told the OB so when he gave us the date. For what *we* think DS was right on time.

DS - 10 days past EDD
DD - 7 days past EDD

no inductions.

With my first, I guessed at dates and confirmed them with an u/s at 13wks. I went into labor at 40w4d and he was born at 40w6d, though a bit ahead of his own timing as the doc's forced a c/s for failure to wait.

With #2, I knew my dates and went into labor at 39wks exactly and he was born at 39w3d (well, 2d plus 48 minutes! 12:48am).

With #3, again knew my dates and was in labor at 39wks and he was born at 39w1d.

I was induced with DS1 , which led to a c-section at almost 41 weeks.

With DS2 my MW stripped my membranes at 42 + 3, went into labor the next day, and had him early in the a.m. at 42 + 5! I am sure he would have gone longer had my MW not stripped my membranes but she was getting nervous...

#1 DD was 42w 5d when they broke my water in the hospital. I had her at home 10 hours later with my midwife.

#2 DS was 41w 2d when I went into labor at home.

Wow, you're not giving me much hope. I'm really nervous about having another big head cooking for an extra 10 days.

1 was labor thru the day/ night 40w6d born 41w
2 was labor day/night at 41w, born 41w1d
3 induced 40w4d

I am positive of my ovulation dates with both pregnancies.

My first was 9 days past her EDD.
My second was born on his EDD!

both of mine were born at exactly 41 weeks... no 3 is due in 8 weeks, i'm not expecting him to be early..

My 1st was born 1 week after her EDD, after some foot accupressure by my doula got me going (at least I think that was why). I was afraid the OB would insist I be induced! But I did tell her that I would require proof of why she wanted to, like something on the ultrasound that indicated distress.

Since so many seem to have more than one pregnancy that goes past 40 weeks, I am thinking that it is due to a longer cycle. The OB's probbaly all just estimate/assume an ovulaion of 14 days or something? My cycles are very irreglar, so to assume that would be erroneous.

My EDD is July 25th. I am actually really, really hoping I will be a week late, since that would be on August 1st, which is not only my birthday, but my mom's too!

I know it's hard but try to think of it as "great baby stays longer and makes sure those little lungs are fully developed." that helped me anyway.

My first was 11 days past her EDD and my second was born on his EDD. I had an early u/s with my second at about 7 weeks that we used to date, as I was not sure on my dates. With my first, we went by LMP, which I now know is off by at least 4 days for me, as I'm now charting. This is my first with an accurate ovulation date, it matched up with my early u/s date, so I'm very solid on dates this time. We'll see what happens!

40 weeks is just a myth though. I believe the true averages are 41+4 for the first and 40+4 for the second so left alone, more than 50% of women would go over the 40 week mark.

I'm anxiously stalking this thread. My first was born right at 41+4 based on ovulation date and based on family history I'm expecting to go longer for this baby as well. I guess we'll see!

I agree. I said above that DP and I knew the date our OB gave us was about 12 days too early. And our OB insisted he was right because he was reading the ultra sounds. And so I agree that he was probably right about what date I hit 40 weeks. Just DP and I *knew* he wasn't going to be born on the 4th. And we aren't crazy people who think we are psychic or anything, it just felt like the 16th would be much closer. He arrived late in the day on the 14th.

If you had a "late" first baby (past the current medical deadline of EDD +10, or whatever it is, or had to be induced because you hit your CP's deadline), when did you go into labor with your second?

I'm wondering if there's any pattern. My mother claims that I arrived a full month after my EDD (2nd attempt at induction), and that my younger brother arrived 3 weeks early (fast labor, a bit over 2 hours). I wonder if her EDDs were just way off in one case or the other.

My mom claims the same thing. She says I was 32 days "late" I find it sort of hard to believe since I was looking pretty chubby and skin was nice etc.

My oldest was 41.5. I did get induced. My second I opted for an AROM at 40 weeks because baby #1 was over 10 lbs. My third decided to come on her own at 39 weeks exactly.

I don't think there is a pattern.

DD1 I was induced at 41 weeks.
DD2 was born 3.5 hours after her due date (3 hour L&D)
DD3 was born 4.5 hours after her due date (4 hour L&D)

With DD1 I wasn't 100% sure on my O date since she was completely unplanned and I wasn't charting.
DD2 I was charting and she was planned, so I know when I O'd.
DD3 I was charting, but had a slip up, so I know when I O'd and conceived then too.

With very clear and obvious EDDs... I have been within a week of my due date both times... first was 40w4d and second was 39w something (I seriously do not remember when she was due. 39w1d if her EDD was when I think it was.)

This time I expect her to come much sooner... but not because of my previous births. Just... I'm only 28w today and lost my mucous plug for the first time 2 weeks ago (with DD it was around 32 weeks and DS it was around 36) and I am already starting to dilate a little (funneling cervix) and have had spotting. I'm actually supposed to be taking it easy to avoid going into premature labor... so I am hoping to make it to 36 weeks and will be ecstatic if I make it to 38!

I'm 100% sure of my dates and I went to 43+2 weeks with my first and then my second was born at 38+1 after SROM at 37+6.

I will say this... if you've had one baby past your due date, don't count on it happening that way again. After a 43 weeker I was *sure* I'd go at least to 40 weeks.

And I will also say that I would take a 43 weeker over a 38 weeker if I had the choice any day. I am praying this baby stays in until at least September 1st (I'll be 39 weeks)... and preferably longer. My 43 weeker was ready to be born, he thrived... my 38 weeker was not. He was a late preemie in the way he acted. I know some women naturally cook shorter or longer, but knowing that for me (and my Mom and Gramma) I cook longer I would *waaaay* rather do those extra couple of weeks with an inside baby than an outside baby. They are way easier and it's much much more pleasant for both baby and I.

1st 41 weeks 3 days- 8lbs 12oz
2nd 43 weeks 5 days- 8lbs 11oz

Neither induced.

DS1 arrived 11 days after EDD.
DS2 arrived exactly on his EDD.

(These EDD are mine based on my ovulation. They are not the official dates based off LMP. Both labors started spontaneously.)
