recycling underwear

ok, I know this is freaky. But I'm wondering if anyone has any creative ideas.

Hubby got new underwear, and now I have a drawer-full of oldies that I will either toss or ...

I've made rag rugs with tshirts. Is it repulsive to consider doing that with the undies?

I was also thinking about cutting off the elastic and using the elastic for kids' pjs and such.

yep, save the waistbands. i have recycled dps old boxers into handkerchiefs for him before. I also save totally worn stuff like cut apart undies and stuff in a bag and use it later as stuffing for throw pillows, baby blocks, etc.
also like to have some scrap knit fabric near the machine for testing tension and stitches, and this kind of scraps are perfect like that.

Would it make a good layer for mama cloth or diapers? I was going to say stuffing too.

I made a flag with dp's old undies. I put it on our flagpole when we have bbqs

I've saved bows, flowers etc to sew onto dd's plain undies so she knows which way round they go.

I've also cut the pictures from kids undies and used them to cover stains on t shirts.

I have some of DH's to cut up for family cloth. Haven't gotten around to it yet.

When I was working with a home health company a gal I cleaned for recycled everything she could. She used her for dust cloths by cutting of the bands and crotch and they work great without lint left.

I did it too after.

I made dh's old boxers into baby pants! the hems were just in the right spot. He reminds me: "and a baby quilt."

After you remove the elastic, 100% cotton cloth will decompose in an active compost pile.

just wondering if you have any idea how long that would take? ... trying to decide if I want to put the remnants into our compost pile.
