Question About Sex

So I have a sex question. What if you get unwanted germs inside you by accident from having sex? You know, like if dh didn't take a shower first, or mouth germs from oral or something like that? I was looking at another thread that was talking about acidity increasing down there during pregnancy. Is that to make sure no bad bacteria makes it's way up to your baby? I always thought everything was sealed up for baby's protection, but now I see the thread where women are saying that they walk around for weeks dialated before birth. Anybody know anything about any of this?

Assuming that both of you are only intimate with each other and practice good hygiene and your waters remain intact you are fine. We always wash after the act, not before.

Dilation of the cervix doesn't change anything in regards to this issue. Breaking of the waters would be a concern however because then the barrier is gone. At that point you would not be having sex at all and would not want to introduce anything into your vagina, including vag exams because of the risk of infection. Most likely you would be in labor very soon afterward, and most OBs would induce within 12 hours if you don't go on your own. (I don't agree with this practice and neither does the midwifery model of care. I think careful observation with NO exams is probably the best course.)

You're fine. Just go on and do your normal thing...your partner doesn't need to scrub up beforehand, or avoid oral, or anything like that. Your baby is sealed behind a mucus plug, plus two amniotic sacs. NOTHING is getting to that baby through your vagina until the water breaks.

You're fine! Your vagina is pretty acidic and can usually handle most things. I have never made dh scrub before hand and it's never been an issue!

that's a huge relief, sigh! I know he was a bit dissapointed when I told him I was feeling afraid about germs. He'll be happy to find that I have a new found confidence! My day is starting to get a little better
