I can't find the previous posts but wanted to update all of you strong awesome mamas on our situation since I've gotten a bunch of PM's and can't respond to all of them
DS is in the RTC program here in town. They are FANTASTIC and are working hard to keep him working hard
I was FLABBERGASTED when I went to court for his arraignment last week. The RTC unit refuses to allow me to transport him (safety issues-obviously) so the GAL asked the court to transport him via the Sheriff. The judge voiced concern that it would be too stressful for DS's psych issues to be transported in a juvenile detention vehicle so....wait for it.....
He offered to move the entire trial TO THE RTC UNIT!
The GAL and everyone agrees that DS needs to take responsibility for his actions but wants to set things up so he is court ordered to comply with treatment, as opposed to facing non-rehabilitative jail time etc.
So far so good! DS is starting 11th grade this fall and it doesn't look like he'll be discharging from the RTC anytime soon. The current recommendation is treatment group home and then regular group home and THEN evaluate a return home at that time. It's VERY possible he'll be a senior by then-at which point it's also possible they'll keep him placed until he graduates. Which would be AWESOME. I really think the idea of him actually returning home isn't realistic. It's just too terrifying for me to consider and I can't put myself or the rest of my kids at risk.
Fingers crossed that it keeps going in the right direction! Thanks for all the support mamas!
