Cloth diapers while camping?

We planned to use disposables on dd2 while camping, but we tried them out today and they gave her a rash. Is it possible or just ridiculous to go camping with cloth diapers? She'll mostly, or if we're lucky, only, pee and not poop, so I could rinse them out. But I'm not sure they'll dry in the shady campsite if it's humid. And is there something about human pee smell attracting black bears?

We've camped with diapers - twice with ds#2 (the only time I remember camping while having one in CDs). We took flats so they were easy to wash/dry. At the end of the evening, dh or I would wash them in a 5-gallon bucket with a little detergent, rinse them well (easy to do with flats) and then hang them to dry over night. It worked really, really well. Sometimes we would snappi them on, and sometimes we'd fold them down to the size of a tri-folded PF, and lay them in a wrap. We took mostly PUL covers, but also our wool covers. We took 2-3 dozen, but by washing every evening, even if they took all the next day to dry, we had enough until they were ready. (We camped for 7 days/nights once; the other time we camped for 3 or 4 days.)

I posted about doing this a few days ago. It was very humid and the campsite shady, but they dried fast, like I never had more than 6 hanging on the line at once. (I just hung out the pee dipes w/o rinsing then put them in the wetbag after they dried.) Oh, and it was pfs.

Pretty sure it is the opposite. Wildlife are generally afraid of the scent of human urine

I take it you're going to be camping more than a few days. We usually don't tent camp that long so I just keep the dirty PFs in a bag to wash at home. However you shouldn't have any problems washing them out and hang drying even if it's shady or humid. Some state parks have laundry mats too. You can also go diaperless part time to save the work of hand washing.

We're just going for 2 nights. I guess I need to find a big bucket and wash them out every night, it doesn't sound hard with prefolds....

If you are just camping two nights then just take a big wetbag and wash them at home. If you don't have to wash every night then just don't. They will easily keep for three days until you get home.

Human scents keep bears away. Things like deordarant and smelly shampoos attract them.

Won't they get moldy smelling?

After 4 days our diapers get smelly and it's not that great for the fibers to let them sit more than 4 days. Two nights is no problem though.

Agree with the PPs -- for 2 nights I wouldn't wash, would just bring enough to last the whole trip. I have traveled and camped with CDs and have let them sit 3-4 days (at home I washed every day). It doesn't smell moldy, it just starts to stink of ammonia. I kept in open air bags unless we were in the car, I don't know if it does anything but I felt better having some air in there.
