Okay, you win, Caillou does whine

After watching a LOT of the show "Peppa Pig," which features a kid Caillou's age without the neurosis, I now feel like telling Caillou to grow a pair.

Does he have to be so anxious about EVERYTHING? Even when he's asserting himself he's worried. "I'll do it myself? Daddy?"

Oh, wait, this episode isn't as bad. He's actually making normal observations to his sister. Hmm, it's only talking to adults where he breaks out the whiny voice like he's pretending to be a toddler.

For that matter, the narrator has a bit of a whine to her voice verses the narrator for Peppa Pig.

but his parents always stay calm and kind. (unlike me who would have lost it already with all the whining)

LOL, my son loves Caillou and I'm able to tune out the annoying voices but it drives my boyfriend NUTS!

I agree. I formerly stated that Caillou does not whine any more than any normal 4 yr old. But I am retracting that statement!

We actually quit watching it because DS, who is NOT a whiner started whining like Caillou. Grrr.

It's so patronizing, the way they portray him. But my 2 yr old loves it. And when was this cartoon produced! I hate the mom's outfit. She always looks like a sack of potatoes with that lumpy sweatshirt with the lace collar! And that goes for Mother Bear of the Berenstain Bears too! (Sigh, I can't censor by fashion critiquing)

That's why Caillou is banned in our house. It's not even just the whining that bothers me so much. I think he's a horrible role model. He's mean to his sister. He's rude and disrespecful, and is never reprimanded or disciplined in any way. I remember one episode where he didn't want his sister playing in the sand box, so he threw sand in her face, then whined that it was sister's fault, because he didn't want her in there, and nothing happened! He wasn't told it was wrong, nor did he apologize to her, nothing. I don't like that it was teaching my daughter that there are no consequences to anything, and that whining and crying will always get your way.

Sack of potatoes. I've always wondered if Mommy was pregnant or what?

Wow! Didn't see that one. I can't think of any eps we've watched where he's been rude or disrespectful...granted we only started watching about a month ago. DS really enjoys it - we only watch Caillou and Kipper. I have to say that I haven't really noticed too much whining...it's his laugh that annoys me. The way he laughs in response to...pretty much everything. Like a nervous tic. On the other hand, I appreciate that he'll laugh and go-with-the-flow in situations where kids his age might flip out or have a tantrum or something. Now I'm gonna have to listen for the whining.
