Toddlers and Jewelry

DD is insanely obsessed with jewelry. She always insists I wear a necklace at the least and would love if I'd wear earrings all the time too. She keeps asking for necklaces too. Is there any jewelry that's safe for a 1.5 year old???

my dd has worn an amber teething necklace 24/7 since about 3 months old. we take it off at bathtime, but otherwise it's on.

DD (3) wears stud earrings which she asked for at 2, so we got them.

DD2 (11 months) has nothing and we cannot pierce her ears because she is not vaxed.

I like the amber teething necklaces. DD also has sunglasses that she loves and wears. She also frequently asks for some of my lip gloss and we keep her nails polished which she LOVES

My DS has a necklace that he loves. It was originally a nursing necklace designed for me to wear to occupy his hands while he nursed but he's taken it over. It is just a string of chunky plastic beads. The string looks like dental floss and I presume it is some kind of unbreakable material. It has a quick release clip which pulls apart easily, and he can do it up again himself. Though I've yanked on it with all my might and haven't been able to break it, the beads are definitely choking hazards so he only wears it when I can keep an eye on him (ie. not in bed, not in RF car seat, etc).

DD wears her teething necklace too. And also a pendant I gave her on a long simple cord she can slip on and off over her head. She also loves to make and wear shoe lace bracelets. They are colored shoe laces with simple beads threaded on. You tie it around the wrist like you would for a shoe. It's pretty easy to take on and off as well.

If you are looking for real jewelry, I highly recommend this site: http://www.loveivy.com/ Real silver and gold for babies & kids. DD1 has been wearing a real necklace since she was two weeks old. First it was an extremely thin gold chain w/ a cross that I got at a dept store. She was baptized at about 8 weeks old and got one of the diamond initial necklaces from Love Ivy. She has worn it almost constantly since then & she just turned two. I know that last summer she wore a shark's tooth necklace instead, but other than that, it has been the initial one 24/7. The chain has held up perfectly and it looks as good as the day I first put it on her. Since it is a real chain, I know it would break before choking her. DD2 is being baptized on Sunday & will receive HER initial necklace then. DD1 actually just asked me last week where dd2's necklace was, lol.

I have one of the Snapdragon Designs nursing necklaces w/ colorful plastic beads & dd1 likes to wear that sometimes. It has a quick-release clasp that even she can pop open. I have tugged on it while she has had it on & it comes open. Sadly, her shop is no longer open.

DS plays a lot with my Mommy Necklace that I originally got for him to play with while nursing. It has a breakaway clasp and safe beads. It's long on him though so I can't see a child wearing it regularly, IYKWIM.

I'd second the recommendation for an amber necklace. Or hazelwood. Same idea, and I'd personally be comfortable with a child wearing either full-time.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to look for a teething necklace then or an amber nursing necklace. Did you guys all buy yours online or do you think my local nursing store would have something? I'm kind of lazy in this heat to go outside but I might make a run down there just in case.
