Normal or early?

DS is 14mo. He's always been a bit advanced physically. (He decided at 5 months that he wanted to sit up on his own) He's a bit "behind" verbally. (According to the online stuff he should be saying something like 3-4 words by now...he doesn't. We're lucky to get mama and daddy)

He likes to pull the Tupperware out on the floor of the kitchen. I barely notice it anymore...but last night I noticed one of the containers didn't have a lid on it and when I glanced back it suddenly did. I looked at DS and said, "Did you do that?" and took the lid off. I put the container down on the floor and two different lids right beside it. He walked over, grabbed the correct lid, and placed it back on the container. He did it again this morning with a different sized container...

It's early for him to be making that kind of connection isn't it?

I have no idea - but my son was doing that at the same age! It's so funny!!

I don't know if it is early or not, but I see a lot of one-year-olds putting tops on. I remember my DS being obsessed with tops on and off around that age. So cute!

I don't know either but so smart and cute no the less!

It sounds normal to me...my 17 month old has been matching lids to containers for several months. I think they start "getting" that things go together at this age. It's so cute!

I think it's normal - if they are given the opportunity, yk? Montessori has a lot of materials that work like that (putting the correct pieces together), and I've seen little ones doing so before they could walk.

I agree, it is normal but amazing none the less!!!! I know sometimes the stuff my 12 mo old does just blows my mind! They are so smart!

DD is 2 days younger than your DS and she does things like that too. It's amazing how much they know! I was asking her to point to parts of the body the other day and she knew where to point to things like eyebrows! They are like little sponges, he must have seen you put the lid one once and copied you. How cute.

Yeah, normal, but smart nonetheless!

My DS could dump out 4-5 wooden puzzles and put them all back together by 14mo. He was also a late speaker and didn't start talking until he was 2. Some kids learn verbally and some kids learn spatially. It sounds like you have a spacial, hands on learner.
