I need med's that are "moderately safe" for BF. WWYD?

Hi, mamas,

i was prescribed a medication for an ear issue I'm having, a steroid nasal spray, to try and relieve pressure in my eustation tubes. It's Nasonex, and there's no clinical trial for safety in BF. My doctor said she's okay with it. I have not called the pediatrician, as her office was already closed.

Any input on this from anyone? Thanks!

How old is your baby?

For a healthy baby older than a newborn, I wouldn't hesitate to use a "moderately safe" medication for short-term use.

I used nasonex in the hospital with my preemie on recommendation from my midwives. They said since it is a local med, not oral, that very very little transfer occurs.

I should have said: my daughter is 3 1/2 mo. Good point that it's short-term, thanks.

Hale's 2004 edition says it is extremely unlikely that any will be excreted in milk.

I was told it's fine when I asked at dd's 2 week checkup. I'm supposed to use it long term but really only do it as needed, so the frequency varies a lot, but the ped wasn't worried about it at all. Or any of the other meds I take for asthma...

I was told it was all fine during pregnancy too. The only asthma drug they had me stop was singulair.
