Shoes for swollen feet?

Thread Starter
Anyone have suggestions for good shoes for swollen feet? I can't stand the feel of flip flops, crocs are too sticky, and most maryjane types cut across the swollen part of the base of my toes. Other ideas?? I need one pair of shoes to make it the next eight weeks!!

My favorite pair of shoes is a pair of Keds that I've had forever. They may not be stylish, but they're molded to my feet and that's more than enough for me.

Ooh, I'm so sorry, Mae. That's gotta be tough.

If you want to spend the money Cole Haan makes shoes (flats, heels, boots) with Nike Air technology in the soles. I have a couple pair of the ballerina flats and they're pretty comfortable. But mainly I wear the Keds. Like I said, they're like a million years old, but I adore them - however uncool they may be.

Also, I can't recommend putting really good gel inserts into any shoes you wear enough. I've got lupus and fibromyalgia so my joints are bad all the time which means I've really got to watch things like this.

If casual is OK, try Birkenstock-style sandals. I lived in them for the last couple of months each time. I liked being able to adjust the buckles as my feet got larger.

I second the Birkenstocks. They have been my favorite by far

flip flops are the only thing i am comfortable in right now....when i need extra support because i know i will be on my feet all day, i am in my running shoes (new balance) with my arch supports in them....and they are UNTIED!!!!

that is how GIANT my feet are! but the support does feel nice. good luck....i have been wondering what on earth preggo women do in the winter for shoes, but from what i hear the swelling isn't nearly as bad then....

Sport sandals are a good option - various brands make them including Teva, Chaco, Nike, etc. They usually have a velcro strap across the top of the foot and another around the ankle, so they're fully adjustable to fit feet that are too swollen for your normal shoes.

Birkenstocks are definitely good because of the adjustability factor.

I've found Born brand sandals to be the most comfortable so far this summer, because they are a wider width and can accomodate my larger-than-usual feet. They can be pricey, but I picked up mine at DSW for a great discount.

Good luck!

I bought a pair of these Fly Flot comfort sandals and they are super comfortable. Plus, they're pretty cute and go with just about everything. And they're not Crocks!

Birkenstock sandals or clogs.

Sorry I can't help you. I just wear flip flops and I love them. I used to hate flip flops sooo bad but I have gotten used to them now and I hate wearing anything else.....even when I am not pregnant with swollen feet.

I love flip flops and go barefoot as much as possible, but I echo the sport sandals suggestion. Mine are Speedos.

I really agree. For summer, Birks can't be beat. When I was preg, my feet wouldn't be all that swollen. By lunchtime, it was ridiculous. All I had to do was expand the straps.

Have you tried men's shoes? Typically they're wider than women's shoes, and so it helps with swelling. Just look for a sandal or style you like, go two sizes down from women's, and there you go!

My first pg, I just went barefoot most of the time.

This time, I'm working so that's not an option. I'm hoping my standby of aqua socks with gel insoles continues to be satisfactory. They have enough give/wiggle room and a lot of flexiblity.

Crocs came in handy yesterday. Flew from IL to NC and my ankles swelled up like balloons.
