Help- antibiotic not breastfeeding compatible

I have a fairly extensive cellulitis infection, and it hasn't responded to the first antibiotic we've tried. Today, my doctor added in bactrim. Apparently bactrim is not breastfeeding compatible as it is excreted in the milk and I am on a very high dose.

My son is nine months old, and while he will take a bottle during the day (if I am not home) he nurses exclusively at night.

Any suggestions?

I got this from safefetus.com:

Excreted into milk in low concentrations.
Exposure should be avoided in premature infants, infants with hyperbilirubinemia or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
May cause diarrhea and skin rash in exposed infants.

I also found this, which sounds reassuring:

I would take it and keep nursing.

Bactrim is an L3 drug and is rated by the AAP as a maternal med that is usually compatible with breastfeeding (Medications and Mothers Milk 2010, Thomas Hale).

You can search this database for yourself.

Thanks for the Hale's info. I'm going to use it, and just watch for side effects as it is a very large dose. Thanks!
