Will it help to hear about times we other moms have dropped our babies? It's sad and scary and horrible, but it happens to I bet most babies at some point. OK so when my little one was just a few weeks old, I turned to reach for something and somehow lost my balance and she fell out of my arms onto a tile floor. She screamed and I cried and I nursed her and she recovered. And she's fine, though I did keep a close eye on her.

I agree about the motrin for inflamation. However, I don't think I would be too concerned about the double dose of tylenol. See Dr. Sear's website: Dr. Sears and Tylenol It basically says that tylenol has high safety margins and that it takes about 7 times the regular dose to be harmful, and that a one time double dose for high fevers (but all the other doses should be regular doses).

I'm glad your daughter is fine! I would have probably reacted the same way, but as other posters have said, we've all either been there or will do something like that at some point in our childrens lives. We do the best we can for them and luckily they are very resiliant!

Last week I remember thinking to myself, "hey I haven't dropped DD yet...pretty good", two nights ago she and I were sleeping on the couch and plop. I don't know what happened, but she ended up face down on the floor. I felt horrible, but she is fine.

Happy you are feeling better this morning.

Sunday, my very mobile 11 month old was on the screen door, standing up holding onto it, like leaning against it. My 3 year old was outside filling her wheelbarrow and DP was grilling fish. As he came around the corner, I said "Shawn, Anna is at the door be careful." He replied with an "OK". Then he opened the freaking door and OUT falls my baby flat on her face, YEP on the cement. He had said "Ok" to our 3 year old and I THOUGHT he was talking to me! He never heard me about Anna. Her nose is all scraped. Boy did she scream. We gave her Motrin immediately. I also checked on her more than once that night. She has fell off the bed more than 2 times and my 3 year old fell off at least 2 before she was 1 year old.

Don't feel bad!

Oh and FYI, no Ibuprofen before 6 months.

yes no ibuprofen before 6 mo. no double dose of tylenol either. that is not going to help unless the pain is excruciating. like if the arm is broke etc. in which case you should go to the hosp and they would give it to her. stick to a reg dose. a fall off the couch and teething are not going to hurt enough to need more pain meds. all of my kids have fallen off the couch or bed or whatever they were on at least twice in their infancy. it was my fault for thinking they were ok there, but it is not bad enough to beat myself up over it. my 3 yo does it on purpose now

I think every mom also feels at some point that she wasn't meant for this job. I sure have. Don't take this as a sign you shouldn't be at home with her--your baby was given to you because you are the best mom for her, and she does need you. Plus, accidents will happen no matter what. If you're the one caring for her all day, yes more often they'll be 'your fault', but then you'll also get to be the one to comfort her. I'd say from her perspective that's still a net win.

I'm going to repeat what everyone else has said: Welcome to being a Mommy. My son rolled off the bed when he was a few months old and I felt TERRIBLE about it. I had just left him for a minute and thought, "I shouldn't have..." seconds before he fell. *I* cried about as much as he did.

Currently, he's 14mo and covered in more bruises than I can count...all of his own doing.

everyone of us who has ever had a baby has had their baby fall. it happens! to the best of us, to every one of us at one time or another. Like the others have said, I would not give tylenol for a fall and certainly never a double dose.

Get yourself some homeopathic arnica and keep that on hand, you are going to need it for falls, bumps, and bruises especially as she learns to walk and then later in the toddler years...my 3 year old asked for his "bumped head pills" whenever he gets hurt now. You can get it at whole foods or a similar type store, or online.

according to Dr. sears http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/t088900.asp it is safe down to 2 months (used to be 6). A lot of docs are old skool on this, I was told with my DS in 2006/2007 no ibuprofen before 6 months. I have never EVER heard no Tylenol before 6 months, but I'm not a Tylenol fan, so I would be down with that

I wouldn't medicate with anything other than homoepathic arnica for a simple fall. I mean crap, if you fall down and bump your knee, do you take Tylenol or Advil? I just forget about it after a minute. when this happens and baby freaks out, it's usually more from being scared than from pain.

I really doubt her nose is broken. Right now it's barely even cartilidge, it's so flexible, I'm sure it sure popped back into shape. And don't beat yourself up- babies and toddlers and kids all get hurt, all roll off things or eat something they shouldn't etc. You can't worr about everything or you will make yourself miserable

It is going to be ok! I had my first son at 18 and we were getting on a train. I had him balanced on my luggage cart (he was in his car seat) and as I moved forward in line, his car seat slipped off the luggage rack and ended up on its side on the ground!! Everyone was staring at me like WTH. He was looking at me from the car seat like come on Mom... I was so embarrased but he was fine.
My daughter was 1 or so and walking around the coffee table on which I had spread out the Sunday circulars. They were the glossy slick kind, and my daughter tried to climb onto the table and slipped on the circulars and fell and broke her collarbone! I felt terrible, I was sitting right there but it just happened so fast. Kids are always going to challenge you, you have a long road ahead of you so you'd better get tough girlie!
