When to harvest garlic

This is our first year growing garlic. Any tips on the best time to harvest? We pulled the scapes off last week (YUM!) and the leaf edges are browning now. Thanks!

I harvest mine when the tops are brown and fall over, just like onions.

I harvest earlier than Chicky2. I live on a farm and grow about 100# of garlic every year.

We harvest when 4 - 6 leaves are still green. This is usually about 4 weeks after the scapes come out. Then we bunch them up in bunches of about 10 and hang for 2 - 3 weeks to cure. If I wait until the whole plant is brown, very often the cloves are splitting apart from the bulb, which is not very marketable and is a pain to dig.
