supplementing with formula, making baby sick

Hi,

My son is 3 months old. He was tongue-tied and was diagnosed at 2 months and had it fixed. He is sucking well but my supply is very low. I will be starting donperidone as soon as it arrives.

I work full-time and pump 4x a day only getting about 5oz. I have to supplement with formula for the rest of day while I'm gone. I had been using "Baby's Own" but it caused terrible constipation (very hard followed by dark green sludge). I just switched to Nestle Good Start because it said easy to digest but this seems to be giving him terrible stomach aches. My mom has had to help him poop the last 2 days and after he does so he feels better. The stool is runny, yellow and seedy (which is what bf'ing baby stool is suppose to look like right?). I hate my pediatrician so I really don't want to consult with her. She didn't believe me about tongue-tie and doesn't listen to me.

I'm hoping to only have to supplement for another few weeks til the donperidone kicks in. Any suggestions on formulas?
That or maybe I should pump like a crazy woman... thanks.

We use Earth's Best for my little guy. But I will tell you what my ped told me when we had similar constipation problems. Switching from BM to formula or between formulas requires an adjustment of the tummy. It can take a full week for poops to get back to "normal" (or a new normal). It is painful to watch them being constipated, I know, but to keep switching between formulas just extends the torment. If it doesn't improve after a full week, then you need to switch formulas, and at that point, you might want to consider an elemental formula.

We always used Nature's One Baby's Only organic infant formula. Both my kids had the most positive reactions to it. I really like the company, and they are also the cheapest organic formula I have found. They sell it at Whole Foods. The cheapest place online is www.luckyvitamin.com

They also have a lactose-free formula and a soy formula if that ends up being needed.

I forgot to mention that putting a probiotic in the formula really helps. We used Baby Jarro-dophilus.

Have you considered looking for donated breast milk? I have used www.milkshare.org, as well as my local threads here on MDC and on diaperswappers and have gotten more than 1000 oz of donated milk for Cecilia. I gathered most of it before she was born but have been getting more as she grows older and requires more milk.

oh-- I just wanted to add an OT thought-- you might post on FYT about a recommendation for a BF friendly ped. It's so important to have someone you trust!
