I've been at my current job for almost 2 years. I'm an office manager/assistant/receptionist. The industry that I work in is sports - definitely up my alley.
I took a HUGE paycut to take this job nearly two years ago because I was laid off by previous employer. Knowing what the job entailed at that time, I knew what I was getting myself into as far as really no room for advancement, yearly raises, small bonus at the end of the year, but my family needed for me to work - right now, it's quite important.
So today, I had a small meeting with my boss. He wanted to relay to me some positive notes about my attitude and work and that he really liked how I was progressing, etc., I brought up the room for advancement idea and he said that there really isn't any. It's either be a marketing agent, sports agent, or contract negotitator - all of the above require quite a bit of experience, long hours (which I cannot provide right now), etc.,
A good friend of mine works in property management - an industry that I'm quite familiar with as I used to work in it close to 3 years ago. She has good ties with some folks in HR and said that she would be happy to pass my resume along. I'm just wondering if this is something that I should really consider. She's moved up quite a bit so far and she's been with them for a couple of years with no prior PM experience.
So, WWYD? My current job offers free insurance (doesn't cover a ton of things, but it is free to all employees), the perks of working with the greatest sports agents ever, being 'behind the scenes', but also dealing with common egos/attitudes, entry level pay, and feeling like a peon almost daily. Or, work on getting back in to PM, make close to $10K more a year, and have opportunities to advance myself in a stable industry.
