General Questions and comments about my EC process

Hi
as far as waiting for an infant to poop this is what we did: (I hope I can explain it)
we would sit dd on the bblp and then place it on our hip (usually our left hip bcs we are both right handed). This way my hip bone would hold the potty and my left arm would support dd. I was able to cook, help the other kids, etc. I would carry her like this until she wanted off. It really helped us a lot to give her plenty of time to go w/out hurting our backs or ignoring the other kids. Dh came up w/ it and I thought it was really brilliant. I don't think I have pics, sorry.

That is brilliant and if DD was less than 25 lbs and likely to want me to do that every time, I'd try it now.

I like the potty idea, although we don't have a potty yet, just a bucket.

DD is 4 months and has had similar behavior. what helps us: have a buckey/potty wherever we are, like by the bed nursing chair etc.(try not to travel/interrupt nursing etc to potty, can you nurse and hold him over bucket potty? or will he suck your finger? if dd pops off after nursing a few mins I try then. because the have a reflex that kicks their bowels into geaer aboput 10 mins into nursing or sooner. also, uckling can hlp them relax sphincters) if she cries stop immediately. personally I never wait 5 mins for anything to start. dd wouldn't go for it,. we stop and try again in about two mins. if she still resists (esp if sleepy) I jusy change her asap, (like she wears a pf with a belt, or a dipe wioth no ciover when at home and I keep my hand on her make cueing sound if possible and take daper off right away.

I basically back off but stay more attentive to diaper changes when she is fussier about potty...

I usually waited until my DS went potty, or it became apparent that he wasn't going to go. Sometimes I did wait a bit annoyingly long, but I would suggest stopping before you get frustrated or too bored. But to help your back and make the experience more enjoyable while waiting, what about putting a little potty on the floor in front of a stand up mirror? We always had fun interacting that way and it didn't hurt backs. You just would have to support him to stay sitting.

Regarding wake up pees, maybe you could back off those for a while and try again in a few weeks. You don't want him to start associating pottying with annoyance first thing in the morn or after naps.
