BFing changes around 8 months?

DD is 8 months old and has been BFing basically every 2 hrs for the past 8 months (During the day anyway). Over the past week, it's all I can do to get her to eat most of the time! She's gone up to 6 hrs at a time without eating (not for lack of trying on my part - she would scream when I tried to nurse). Is this normal at this age for some reason? We're doing modified baby-led weaning and she isn't eating much solid food yet - so she certainly isn't filling up on solids!

She just started crawling well this week too - is that why? Will she go back to eating regularly?

Thanks!

My baby stopped nursing anywhere but laying down in bed at around that age...not convenient! It's not unusual for them to get so distracted by life that they have a hard time stopping to nurse. I would recommend trying in a darkened, quiet room.

I went to Disneyland when DD was 8.5 months old, and she would NOT nurse, so I had to go to the First Aid station and ask to lay on a cot to feed her. And that's what worked!

Hehe thank you for that - I can totally relate to your Disneyland situation! I was in a wedding this past weekend and ended up lying on the floor in the brides room trying to get her to nurse. (It didn't work).

Anyway yes, we've been nursing lying down in bed for the past 4 months actually - it's the only way she will nurse

That's funny!!!!! My 7mo prefers laying down, but will still nurse upright, though she generally gets too distracted. My others at some point began to realize nursing would make them go to sleep and thus fought it.

Yep, it's normal. Especially when they're learning new skills. I've been having an increasingly difficult time getting DD (10 months) to nurse during the day on weekends, and mornings/evenings during the week (I'm a WOHM). I tried the quiet dark room, and sending DH out of the room to lessen distractions, which worked for a while. But now what I've found that works is actually almost the opposite. I give DD a small toy that she likes, and play with her with it and engage her more. It seems to keep her interested in nursing a bit longer.
