Pregnancy, nursing, nausea?

I tried to do a quick search but couldn't find this specifically and it's the middle of the night for me... I'm pregnant--about 6 or 7 weeks. I'm also breastfeeding my 17mo. She's still a very avid nurser, and also nurses at night and likes to keep my breast in her mouth. I could first tell I was pregnant because I was constantly starving. Anyway, the nausea has set in this week, and I can feel it increase whenever she nurses. Anyone else experience this? It's really hard at night because I can't go back to sleep while she nurses anymore, but lay here feeling like I need to grab my bucket. Tonight I made myself a sandwich before bed and just ate it, which is helping a little but I still feel yucky.

I had a miscarriage and then low levels of progesterone early in my pregnancy with my daughter, so I took progesterone. I had some left over, and I've taken two doses. Could I possibly have too much and it's making me extra nauseated? I just never thought nursing would increase the nausea.

I don't want to make her wean (though eventually our night situation will need to change... ) so I feel bad when I have to tell her she can't nurse because I need to get some food down so that I can handle her nursing.

Not sure what I'm asking here. I guess just if anyone else experienced this or has any advice? I'm basically just eating little bits constantly to try to feel better. Thanks!

When my child was nursing I got really sick, I guess as soon as let down. She was only nursing 2-3 times a day at that point, and she was 3.

She eventually weaned within a few weeks all by herself. By the time I was 10 weeks she had stopped nursing completely. I am not sure if it was because every time she nursed I had to get up to puke or because I dried up already, but yes I got very very sick during nursing sessions. I am only 12 weeks now, I am still getting sick, but not the intensity I did during the nursing sessions. Food didn't even help me because she didn't nurse during the night, she only nursed before bed and nap, and I still had a hard time.

I had the opposite situation -- nursing my now 2.5 year old (I'm 27 weeks) seemed to be associated with less nausea. Well, basically, I had very little to none this pregnancy compared to pretty bad nausea in my first one (but no puking) and I thought it might be because of nursing. I have seen a few posts on this, and it does seem all over the board. I think some women have had increased nausea like you, some have had just as much, and some have had less.

My DS was a frequent (usually every 2 hours) night nurser when I got pregnant. We started to change our pattern and did night weaning when I was about 6-8 weeks. We started by just cutting out all night feedings before 4 am (cold turkey). We had tried night weaning before, but he would stay awake 2-3 hour stretches when he couldn't nurse back down, so had given up. This time it worked -- he settled within a max of 30 minutes, usually through the method of distraction (DH and I telling him stories). He would still wake between 4.30 am and 6.30 am, and nurse 2-3 times. We cut that out about 3 months after had achieved the first success (sleeping through until 4.30 or so). We offered him milk instead, and he eventually took it. He still wakes up regularly at that time, though, and we are still struggling to make it all the way through the night.

Good luck!

I have nursed through this situation twice now, both times ended in nightweaning but not until around 12-15 weeks .. Mostly due to my stubornness trying to make it through despite being miserable all night.. It only got worse at night while overall my nausea got better at 12-16 weeks.. Eating at night helped some but sleeping and not nursing helped more.. Anyway I went on to nurse my dd til 37 mo even though I got pg when she was 17 mo and my ds is 25 mo and shows no signs of compleltly weaning anytime soon and I'm 28 weeks pg w/#3

I had this while nursing my first and NOT pregnant (only a few times) and then again when I got pregnant while still nursing her at 16 months. I ended up weaning her at 18 months because my nipples got SOOOO sore from the pregnancy, but the nausea I had as well wasn't making it any better, either. I remember researching this while I was nursing her as a newborn and apparently it was common and normal.

Here's an article about nausea while nursing that I'd found at that time:

Hope it helps!

I had terrible "morning" sickness with this pregnancy, but have nursed thoughout the whole thing. The nausea seemed to strike when and where it chose, and could be triggered by just about anything. Sigh. Nursing sometimes triggered it, but not always. It sucked. I told my DD that she could only nurse for a few minutes and then she would have to stop because mommy was making a baby sibling for her and needed the milkies for the baby. When it was really bad, I set the "boob alarm" which is either the snooze button on my alarm clock (7 min) or a timer set to the amount of time I could deal (sometimes as little as 3 minutes). She got that long per side, then we stopped. Thankfully, the nausea went away around 18 weeks. DD is thrilled to have some longer nursing time back, but nipple sorness still prevents me from sleep nursing. I hope it goes away when this little one arrives.

So no real advice. Sorry. The only thing that helped at all is position, but I know that is hard to change with night nursing.

Similar experience here. I did have vomiting with this pregnancy, but in general have been less constantly sick than when I was pregnant with my first. Nursing definitely abated the nausea in teh moment unless I was on teh verge of puking. I weaned her (unrelated to the m/s) and I am still sick, perhaps more so.
