I could really use a Mac laptop for my job hunt (so I can get out of the house where I'm getting nothing done). So I'm thinking about trying Swipebids.

According to recent news reports it's possible to score really good deals if you have the time to invest (up to three hours or so and you may need to stay online until the end, if only to increase your chances of winning). You pay a very small amount to participate on each auction, perhaps as little as a penny. Which would explain why they need the credit card info up front.

Each time someone bids the auction time is extended.

Has anyone tried this? If so, any regrets?

I stumbled across a link to the auction site via a news report. Any advice on how to avoid a counterfeit site. Any other general advice?

Thanks,
~Cath
