First & middle names that have only syllable - sound weird???

I'm due in 5 weeks with my DD#2 and have been waffling on a middle name. My original choice is Grace Elizabeth, but I really like the name Jane as a middle name as well - but does Grace Jane sound weird? f it helps, we plan on calling her Gracie, and I think Gracie Jane sounds cute.

Thoughts?

IMO it does sound a little 'wrong' to have two one-syllable names in a row. I'm sure you'll get some responses that middle names don't matter because they aren't used regularly (and I mostly agree with that) although I still like the two names to sound pleasant together. I agree that Gracie Jane sounds nice, but she might only be a Gracie for her childhood, and let's face it, our childhood is only a quarter of our lives. I think if you love it and/or it's a middle name you're using for sentimental reasons (ie: family name) the one-syllable name thing could be pushed aside.

I am in agreement that I like the first and middle (and last) names to flow and sound nice together regardless of how often they are actually said together. I personally think Gracie Jane sounds really cute. I don't like how Grace Jane sounds though. Not only is it two names that are only one syllable, but they both have the long "A" sound and it just doesn't sound good together imo. I much prefer Grace Elizabeth.

I think two one-syllable names sound okay if you plan to call the child by both names. I'm reading a book right now with a character in it named Ruth May, and (while I don't really care for either name), it sounds melodious to me because they call her Ruth May.

My DH has two middle names, and all four of his names have two syllables. I don't like the flow of his name. I think it sounds stilted.

Gracie Jane I like, but Grace Jane does have the problem of two long "a" sounds like was already mentioned. The "ie" part in Gracie breaks things up a little.

I think it sounds fine.

I think its not so much the 2 one syllable names as it is just those particular two don't flow smoothly. My partner has a one syllable first name and one syllable middle name and it works perfectly. (And they aren't said together..)
I think Grace Elizabeth works better..

Sorry, the two AY sounds in a row don't work together.

It's not Grace or Jane, it's the two of them together. Both Gracie Jane or Grace Elizabeth work better.

It is totally fine. Barely anyone will even know her middle name, much less use it. So how the two sound together is irrelevant.

Coming from a family where Jean is the main middle name I can say... to me it sounds totally normal to have two one-syllable names.

However, having a short name growing up that could not be shortened did frustrate me a lot of the time, that I did not have a logical nickname to insist on when I wanted (well eventually just went with Em/M but that's just not me)

So personally, due to that, I like to give my children longer names that can be shortened to the one-syllable nickname. Such as my daughter on the way... Maeryn Jean... but will likely be called Mae Jean.

For me it would depend on the last name, because you rarely use both first and middle unless youre using the last as well. ie Grace Jane Brown... to me sounds funny. But if it were Grace Jane Peterson... it seems to even itself out a little bit more I think.

I think Grace Jane sounds weird, and prefer Grace Elizabeth.

I think Grace Elizabeth is a beautiful name. Not a fan of Grace Jane, but that's just me. What about Jane Elizabeth? I like that too. When I named my daughter (Lucy Royal, her brother who is currently baking will be Jude William) I was comforted by the fact that if she grows up hating her name she can get it changed when she turns 18! hehehehehe

Uh.. ps... yes my partner and I are Beatles fans! :-)
