Brewer's Diet?

Anyone else doing it? I'm not having any issues getting the food in...

My current complaint is that I'm eating all.the.time, even when I'm not hungry, to get the boxes filled. I hate that. DH thinks I should listen to my body and not eat unless I'm hungry. If I had done that yesterday I wouldn't have fit it all in. Right now I do a Green Fruit Smoothie for most of my greens, fruits, and veggies.

I also don't feel like it's okay to indulge my cravings (especially the more unhealthy ones...like my craving for curly fries yesterday) because it doesn't always "fit" into the diet. AND if I eat a snack or meal with a craving I'm definitely not hungry enough to eat a snack or meal where I fill in a box...

I am using it as a 'guideline' for my pregnancy. I always make sure I get at least 85g of protein from the list, some dairy and veggies of several different colors.

I don't eat sugar and I am gluten free so that eliminates many of the 'cravings' I would have so it makes it a little bit easier. Although I did have french fries the other day (a RARE occurance) and they were DAMN GOOD.

Don't eat more than you're hungry for. every person is different, and has different energy requirements.

That's what I keep thinking. I'm not running around all the time or anything. DS is pretty laid back and doesn't require a lot of me running around after him.

Well, I think that's part of the point of the diet, that you fill up on healthy foods, so you don't eat stuff that's not so good for you.

I get a little irritated if I can't satisfy a craving...it's like an itch I can't scratch.

I followed the Brewer diet last time. Got pre-eclampsia (mild & late) with ds AND he was only 4lbs 13 oz when he was born at 37 weeks. So, I don't have the faith in it like I used to.

This time around, I'm eating what I want, when I want it. I make sure to eat protein & veggies, but I'm not stressing over numbers. And at my anatomy u/s today, tech said baby was weighing in at 2lbs already, which is ahead for 26.5 weeks. Who knows what size this one will be when born. I haven't gained as much as I did last pregnancy (and the weight was stubborn too--still had the last 8lbs left when I got pregnant with this one, 2 yrs later!). So yea, not the 'sure bet' I was hoping on the first time around.

I'm a believer in Brewer, if you had a SAD to begin with.

But one thing I always recommend about Brewer - leave your grains for last. Grains do not offer anything that the rest of the diet doesn't, so treat them as fillers. Eat all your veggies and your proteins first, and then if you're still hungry, have some of your grains. But so many people (like you) can't handle the full amount of food that he recommends, and if you eat the grains first, you're missing out on the important nutrients contained in the other foods. Treat the grains like the optional filler that the are, rather than a crucial component of the diet.

I did a modified version with DD, and basically just counted protein grams to make sure I was getting enough. I even choked down those two eggs a day (I'm not an egg fan).

This time, I'm not stressing it. I just try to eat healthy and balanced. I give into my cravings in moderation (small portions if it's unhealthy).

I've gained less weight this time, and had more nausea, but otherwise everything seems to be on track. Guess I won't know until the little one arrives if my not following the diet affects the baby in any way.

DH and I eat healthier in general this time around...His opinion is that I shouldn't worry about exact numbers and just worry about eating healthy.

I need to discuss it with the midwife. Nutrition was one of the dealbreakers she mentioned.

There are some anecdotal stories out there telling of the diet growing huge placentas and babies. I have been actively trying to not grow a giant baby so I know I read that info more than once.

I followed the GD diet this pregnancy, not sure of babes size yet but I have gained significantly less weight this pg.
