I get to have a HB!

I'm 29 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby, and have just made the decision to have a homebirth! I wanted a homebirth for this baby before I even became pregnant, but we moved at the beginning of the pregnancy and at the time I was unable to find a HB MW that I liked. We decided on birthing at a free standing birth center that is about an hour away, but the thought of driving all that way, down a busy interstate which is notorious for having wrecks all over it bringing traffic to a stand still, that just kept worrying me. I met with a doula over the weekend to borrow her hypnobabies set and she referred me to another MW I didn't know about. I met with that MW last night and was completely comfortable with her! I'm so excited! I birthed my first baby at the only free standing birth center in the state of NC and had an amazing natural birth. This pregnancy has been free of complications, just like my first one, so I am very excited to experience this again, but at home this time!

Now, since I'm starting the process late in pregnancy, I need to figure out how to get my house in order, and start accumulating the supplies I'll need for the birth. I've asked my MW for a list of things I need to have. Other than that, anyone have any advice since I'm starting so late?

I don't think you're starting too late; that's just about exactly when I switched too! It seemed like plently of time. Yes, there are a few things to get together. Might get that part done now, so that closer to the birth you can focus more on stocking your freezer with meals. That was my big thing.

Also, the one thing I totally forgot to plan for was help at home for that first night. My ILs stayed with us, which worked out perfectly! I could be in bed, and they were on support duty - changing diapers, holding a babe, bringing the babes to me for milk and sleep. (Twins, so slightly different.) But that first night help was crucial!

Congratulations! How exciting!

It really doesn't take any time at all. You can order/pick up most everything on the MW's list in a day. No biggie. up

If you are planning on wanting a waterbirth you need to figure out what tub you want to use and get hook ups ready and know how to do all that.

Think about if you have someone who could come and help around the house or watch your other kiddos. Some people like to make lots of freezer meals (we don't have the space).

If you're like me you need to re-paint your bedroom and redecorate. That really has nothing to do with having a homebirth but I've wanted it for awhile and having a baby gave me a reason to give it a deadline!

You've got plenty of time though!
