Peeling her nails

My 3 year old DD has recently picked up the habit of peeling her nails. She does it all.the.time. Her poor fingers are all torn up. I've talked to her about why it's not a good plan and tried to help her remember not to do it. The typical 3 year old limit testing isn't helping matters. Now if I point it out she screams "I want to do it!!!"

Any ideas on how to help her stop? I'm worried about them getting infected.

When my dd started to do this we calmly told her that it would hurt and she shouldn't do it because of health reasons.

We also "bribed" her with pretty nail polish. I didn't realize at the time how bad polish is, but I told her if she could leave her nails alone for long enough for them to grow a bit, we would polish up her nails and they'd look pretty. We went to the store and picked out a pretty colour. It worked out well for us.

I keep forgetting to look but there are some nice water based ones that don't have the nastys in them.
