i need some mosquito help with my outdoor cat

my poor outdoor cat is getting eaten alive by mosquitos. her ears and nose are raw from bites. is there anything i can use on her or put on her collar to ward them off? i've thought about spraying down our yard with something but that seems like it would be temporary.

In working with cats in a veterinary setting for the last 13 years, I don't think I've ever seen a mosquito bite on a cat. I would be highly suspicious that this is something else. Maybe some kind of mite, mange or allergy.

interesting. i watched them land on her and swarm her head. maybe it's time for a check up. this happened last summer and it went away in the late fall and returned last month. could it be flea related?

Yes, a flea problem is possible. Maybe a flea allergy. Get a flea comb at the pet store or grocery store and thoroughly comb on the back near the base of the tail (down to the skin), then pull the hair out of the flea comb. If you look at it and see small black specks, you're seeing flea "dirt" (read: poop), then that might be it.

Could it be horseflies? I only ask because we had this problem a few years ago with our dog and it was from flies. The ends of his ears were chewed up and raw, etc. I hope you find something that helps-I know it was so sad to see. Thankfully it only happened 1 summer. I can't remember if we found anything specific that worked or not?
