My DS just turned 3 but is quite advanced in many areas, including this kind of thing. He could easily do the things listed above, but we don't eat bagels, cereal, etc. so I cook his breakfast for him (us) every morning. He helps whisk eggs, cut veggies, count grapes, etc. and then he sets the table. When he is done he clears place (including napkin, silverware, glass, plate(s) and/or bowls--takes 3 + trips). Note: he's the only kid so far, so I have it much easier than you do in the morning!

I say if you have healthy foods that do not require cooking or cutting, and your child will do it (as opposed to just playing and not eating)-- go for it!

I would definitely let DS spread cream cheese with a table knife--I mean, I let him cut broccoli into teeny tiny pieces with one! But there are many non-sharp/non-serrated options for spreading cream cheese also.

And yes, I do expect DS to clean up when it is reasonable. The millions of little broccoli pieces would have made a massive mess for him to carry from the place he was working to the sink, so I cleaned that up. But putting away a cream cheese tub and bag of bagels he'd definitely be expected to do.
