When did you start running after pregnancy?

I just am curious how others got back to running post pregnancy. I am currently 40 weeks pregnant and just registered for the 2011 Disney Half (early January). Sort of crazy, but I know myself and I NEED a race to motivate my training. I haven't run too much during this pregnancy, but I've been active and my weight gain has been healthy, but low. I am curious as to how others got back to running and or training following pregnancy. Right now I am planning to restart around mid-August and that should give me enough time (around 18 weeks) to start a slow, safe training regimen.

TIA!

I am not a runner, so I may have no business anwering this post, but I did start walking with my baby around 4 or 5 weeks postpartum. I started working out regularly at 8 weeks, but could have done so sooner ( I was physically ready, I just didn't get into it until then).

We started walking at 3 weeks and did that for about 7 weeks. I started working about regularly roughly 3 weeks ago and my LO will be 4 months on July 3rd. I plan on start back up running maybe this weekend once I can break this sinus infection!

I started running again 8 weeks pp. I was back in good running shape within a couple of months. I wasn't training for anything then, but I think it would have been easily doable. I don't think you'll have any problem getting back in shape for that half. Plus, it will give you something to work for and motivation on days when you just don't want to do it. Good luck!

I was able to run short distances at 6 weeks PP. I hadn't run much in the 4 years prior to this 2nd birth and I was able to run a half at 9 months PP, only seriously training for about 10 weeks. I think your timetable is very doable, especially since you are in decent shape. Have fun at the race, my sister is running the Disney full in January and my 2 nephews and BIL are running the half ... you'll be in good company!

With my DS, I started running again at 3 weeks pp. I felt fine, but those first runs were still pretty short (about a mile, and then some walking). With DD, I spent some serious time on bedrest and then had a c/s, so it took me a lot longer to get back to things. It really, really depends on how you recover from the delivery, but I don't think your half-marathon plan is crazy.

I started running at 6 weeks, although it was tough and short and slow.....

This time I am hoping to run till the end and start again sooner. Just make sure to up your water even more, my friend had trouble with her milk supply from running, although I never did.

I am hoping to start training right away for a 1/2 marathon that I will have about 4 months to train for.

10 days

Not that I would recommend that. I felt good and was itching to move.

I also ran through 33 weeks pregnancy.

My RP started again at 8 weeks, and ran a half last week. Her DS was born in early December, so that's ~7 months.

about 3 weeks at short distances. Probably too early but I missed it so much!
