Hi All;

this is a summary of where we stand and where we are going -- it is written as note to my Mom -- but i am saving it to my file as a "progress" note of sorts.

June 22, 2010

Met with Theodore’s ped today.

She is great.

We sat down and Vent though, page by page, the assessment from Iowa City last summer (12 months and 2 weeks ago). Also though the most recent Childserve assessment (SPL only do not have the OT one yet) AND the new IEP … because the notes on how he tested both speech and literacy (and basic math) are noted.

List of “digonoas” from Iowa City (State U Children’s Hospital)
•Phonological Processing Disorder
•Developmental Delay
•Sensory Disturbance
•ADHD not otherwise specified – note the Dev Ped refused to agree to this DX – so I am guessing it is not official. She said she would not discuss ADD or ADHD till 6 to 7 in Theo’s case due to his general emotional / brain delays (demonstrated by sleep pattern, Potty training)
•Note: OT did not have ANY “findings” – they review the tests done, but no finding or summary like Ped, SLP and Shrink did.

Childserve June 2010 assessment items noted:
•Delay in fine motor
•On task: diminished time / hyperkinetic
•Overly impulsive
•Impaired communication
•Minimal awareness of “body space boundaries”
•Impaired attention
•Audition = profound delay
•Articulation = profound delay
•General “safety risk” level – moderate
•Summary / Dx: Articulation Disorder

Decisions:
She is going to contact a Dev Ped here – at the children’s hospital. We will start there. “it is the hoops we have to jump though to get him the coverage he needs”

Also told her we are applying for a spot for State payment – we might be able to get one based on a “Intellectual disability wavier” that is it waves the requirements for qualifying for the state pay – Ped and I agreed (as we all have) that Theodore’s IQ really won’t qualify him -- don't think (?), butttt there is the good chance he won’t test to the top of his abilities due to 1. speech, 2. attention 3. sensory / behavior and 4. emotional / impulse. So IF he qualifies he will grow out of it – and that is basically the “plan” we just need to find a way Now for him to get the speech services he needs -- whatever door we can get him in. Currently we have been accepted to apply and are in that process.
