Help me nurse through a pregnancy!

I just found out I am pregnant again a few days ago. I had no post partum period (no spotting or anything) since I had my son 10.5 months ago, so I have no idea how far along I am. Comparing my symptoms to those of previous pregnancies, I suspect I’m around 10 weeks. I work full time and stopped pumping at work a few months ago, so DS only nurses morning, evening, sometimes at lunch if I get to go home and maybe a few extra times on the weekends. During the day he gets regular food and some formula My boobs have been a bit sore, but it’s tolerable. I also seem to have maintained my milk supply….for now.

I nursed my daughter during the first trimester of my last pregnancy, but by about 14 weeks my milk had changed to colostrums and DD was 20 months and only nursed once or twice a week so I was more than ready to wean. This time however, I don’t want to! I would feel horrible if I wasn’t’ able to nurse my son to at least a year, and if possible I would like to nurse through the birth of this one and possible tandem nurse then.

Any advice? Should I expect my milk to dry up again soon?

My milk dried up at about 16 weeks if i remember correctly. My son was older than yours (he was 27 mos when his brother was born) but he nursed through my pregnancy. He nursed less after my milk dried up, but he would still always nurse to sleep. He picked up when my milk came back after birth, now i've had to set some gentle limits
You'll have to supplememt if your milk dries up, but if you encourage him to keep nursing he won't forget how and you can go on tandem nurse them both. Just be prepared for him to want to nurse alot more again after birth!

i agree. my ds2 was born a week ago. i nursed ds1 through but he is older (just turned 3). my milk dried up sometime at the end of the first tri. i was surprised it seemed like i must have had more than i thought before because he doubled his food intake, and he was a good eater before! anyway, colostrum came back around 24 wks. in between was really uncomfortable so we were down to once a day just for a minute. when colostrum came back it was a lot better. then when ds2 was born my milk was in by 36 hrs. having ds1 nursing too has been great! helps a lot with engorgement and less jealousy. he loves the new milk and can hardly get enough lol! it was worth it for us and if my older child was as young as yours there would be no question of nursing through (barring medical issues of course...) even if your milk does dry up for a little while, there will still be many benefits to continuing to nurse...
