Could it be? Is he weaned? (and other questions)

My twins are 3 years and 8 months. One of my boys I *think* has finally weaned. He'll ask for nah nah but then try to twiddle my nipple. Or, he'll pretend to nurse (and is silly about it) He hasn't nursed in about a month or so. Is it safe to say that he's weaned? Is it normal that he still asks for "nah nah" but doesn't nurse?

My other twin boy still only nurses once a day but he nurses for a long time, until I count to 10 and then he's done..

My ds did the same thing, of asking to nurse but acting embarrassed by actually nursing. He did nurse I don't know 20 more times over the next yr but even with that since there was weeks in between I considered him weaned but I know many that don't.

Your post is about a week old, how is he doing now? I think it is one of the variations of normal. I thought my ds felt "too old" to nurse because I had had another baby. I think he felt like a baby when he nursed. I was feeling really done nursing him and he didn't seem upset (like he wanted to but not at the same time) so I let nature take its course.

Thanks Katie. He actually nursed but only for a few seconds. It was like, he latched and then unlatched immediately. I wonder how long til he loses that ability to latch?

I think that is different for each child. My ds couldn't remember how to latch after not nursing for about 2 weeks but in that one nursing session figured it back out and even the last time he latched on (about 6 months ago) he still remembered how.

I think it is so strange (natures way I guess) that some kids while actively still a breastfeeding child forget how to latch.

Just thought I'd update.. I think I can say that Ronin is weaned! He hasn't nursed or asked for nah nahs since I posted this. Even he sees his twin brother nursing, he won't nurse..

I is such a special journey, a little bitter sweet at the end but what a amazing ride.
